Maturation vs. Growth in Hydro

I've ran hydro for all my grows, and from everything I've heard/read it's supposedly faster than soil for growth. However, do plants mature/ripen faster with hydroponics as well? I know this is a newbie question, but being somewhat of a newbie I'm curious about it. Thank's very much!

The clones I got from a friend who runs soil turned out to have very similar finishing times
to what he runs and I run hydro. I did notice that the same cuts turned out very different
in appearance, but still have a similar smell.

Never finished out soil plants, so I don't have a first hand comparison. But did notices those
differences mentioned above in our grows using same cuts.
