Max grow area for a 600w hps?

like the title says whats the max growing area for a 600 hps? i wanna flower at least 4 decent sized ladies at a time.. ( start flowering at about 2 & a 1/2 foot) is 600w enough for that?

600 watts should light an area of app.16 sq. ft., i.e. 4'X4'. Lots of light for 4 plants.

A 250 watt HID will illuminate a 2' x 2' garden.
A 400 watt HID will illuminate a 3' x 3' garden.
A 600 watt HID will illuminate a 3.5' x 3.5' garden.
A 1000 watt HID will illuminate a 4' x 4' garden.
