Measuring ppm/pH

Still kinda learning,
How do i measure ppm? I have a ppm meter and pH tester. Im thinking basically just stick the meter into the water with the nutes already in there and then balance it out by using more or less water, correct? How do i calibrate the meter?

To calibrate it you need the liquid to do it but everything else you said is perfext

I have the liquid, and on the back there is like a graph of the temp to ppm. Im not sure exactly what it means.
