Might sound dumb... Rockwool Watering Question.

My rockwool cubes are wet to touch but have drank all the water in the tray. I'm assuming I just water when dry, should I wait to water them until the cubes feel more dry and less heavy?

Do you have seeds or clones in them? Did you soak them or just mist them with a sprayer? Rockwool dries out fairly quickly and touch will not tell you much. You need to learn to get a feel for what a soaked cube feels like and a dry cube as far as feel when you lift it if that makes sense. Kind of like the pot lifting method of watering soil plants.

I use rockwool also. I wait until it feels slightly moist before I water again, as if I licked my finger just a little. I touch with the back of my index knuckle if im really not sure. I water from the top carefully so I can see the water start to come out the bottom. You dont want the cube to dry out or get soggy. I leave the surrounding plastic like material on for shape and to contain the water as it goes in the cube. You want even watering. Also the color changes. When the cube gets lighter in color, and weight are good indicators when to water again. Hope this helps too. I used to struggle a bit.

Flick the excess water out of the rockwool until the plants are big enough to handle full saturation. Also stacking the cube on an empty cube drains the top one really well. It's kind of amazing.

A young seedling in perfect conditions will only need dipped into water for only a few seconds every 2-3 days as rockwool holds a lot of water and as the plant gets bigger the frequency obviously increases and is best done on a fridge rack to air root prune for a monster root ball before putting the Rockwool block in the preferred hydro medium.
