Miracle Grow

So, I don't have access to a hydro shop so I bought miracle grow potting soil, from what I read the soil is terrible because of the time release ferts. So what I did was took a strainer and took out all those little balls. Will this soil be okay now? And I added perlite.

It'll be fine long as you don't add any fertilizers on top of what're already in there. If you truly got ALL the slow release pellets/balls out, still don't add any fertilizers until the seedling has several sets of leaves or is a few inches tall, or both. Don't adjust the PH: I never have and I've never had a plant of any species go weird on me like some of the plants I see on here.

You can add up to 50% perlite (as in 1:1 Perlite:Soil-mix), though owing to how stupidly overpriced perlite generally is, I usually go about 1:2 or even 1:3 if I'm running low. But a 1:1 mix will make for very happy, healthy roots.

I have grown a few times in MG Moisture Control and it worked great. The last time I used it I popped Pineapple Gums directly in it and used it till harvest. I have never strained the fertilizer even though I was worried about it being too hot. Id say the only down side is if you flush your plants because the MG is damn near impossible to flush with the fertilizers.

Im currently growing two plants out of six in mg. the plants had slight nute burn at first but they moved past this. no worries man the soil gets a bad rap but it can obviously work imo.

The only balls in MG PM is the perlite. That mix is already got 10-15% perlite and does not need more. MG PM is great BECAUSE it already has 3 months worth of nutrients in it. Newbys don't have to worry about feeding, mixing nutes, nute-burn, over-feeding, etc. because the soil is already prepped for an average grower. The only time I keep a plant more than 3 months is when I'm starting a mother plant or doing a re-grow. THEN I'll add nutes to the daily watering to ensure proper hydration. Works 4 me, BigSteve.
