Mixing CFL's And T5's

Just curious if anyone here has tried it, and what were your results ?

I am starting a freezer grow where I will probably have 10 to 16 23watt CFL's on one plant......It will be lined with mylar (EB's).....

I'm on the budget, and was kind of wondering if it would be worth it to add 2 single 2 or 3 foot t5's which would be mounted vertically on opposite sides of the plant....thanks :peace:

It will probably be worth it. More light is usually better, though it is possible to over-do it. I know many of the people here who use T5's get them from fish stores, 1 that is meant for growing coral (blue spectrum) and one that is meant for underwater plants (red spectrum). This might be a good thing to look into for you.

Spaaacecowboy: Would you be open to a suggestion? I too don't like supporting the Edison Company on my pension any more than I have to. I also don't like my grow area entangled in electrical cords until it looks like a snake pit. Have you considered aimed reflectors? I'm kind of new to this with tents and bubble tubs but that's what I was doing with my Aerogardens while my friends were running cords and extra lights all over the place. It was an electrician's nightmare.

I cut down some lenses for recessed florescent ceiling fixtures I bought from The Home Depot and I glued Mylar onto them with contact cement I bought from Wal-Mart. I aimed them so that they redirected the light coming down from the hood back up to illuminate the lower portions of the plants. The result was buds all the way down to the planting deck!

I'm about to try that on a bigger scale with larger full size 2' by 4' reflectors to see if I can do it with the same amount of electricity that my rack of T5's are consuming. Just a thought. It should work. HSA

thanks for the replies guys....HSA, my train of thought here is to move the bulbs rather than the reflectors....

Also, how warm do those t5's get ? I heard they're cool...If a leaf touches a bulb will it get burned ? thanks

They will burn the leaf if it touches. But if its a inch away its fine. and yes get the t5's cause the more light the better
