Mold? If so what should I do?

Day 16 of trial grow in home made dresser. I just used miracle grow organic I had laying around my house. I water every 3 days when the soil is dry on top also just watered last evening. I just found these white crystals. There's not a lot and there's no way they have been there for more then 12 hours.

Monitor it. You need good air movement. Also, when watering, don't go by what the top looks like, go by weight. Pick it up when they are watered, weigh if possible to get a feel for it, and when they are about 40-50% of that weight, water again.

Too much moisture could lead to mold and/or root rot.

If you have a loupe or powerful magnifying glass, you can look at those white spots and see if they are mold. They will look similar to a spider web. If they are mold, start over. You are not that far into it so it will not be a big deal. Get a better medium. I have experimented with 3 different ones. Fox Farm Ocean Forest, Roots Organics Green Lite, and Roots Organic Coco Palms.

If you have a limited supply of nutrients and are not planning on a crazy grow, I would use Ocean Forest. Or you could use coco but this is more involved than soil.

The water you give them should be 70-72 degrees and the pH should be 6.6-6.7

Welcome to growing. Almost everyone starts out small and gets bigger. Beware, it gets addictive but it is very rewarding(and I'm not even talking about financially).

Thanks for the help I think I may be watering to much. I also am switching to the fox farm soon. I have plenty of ventilation. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

No need to worry, a little mold on top of soil can actually be a sign of a healthy soil chemistry. Just be sure you have decent air circulation and a humidity below 60 so it doesn't spread to the plant.
