Mold on paper used to block drainage holes...

I noticed that mold was growing in every drainage hole on the paper I layered in to keep my soil from falling through. A single layer of notebook paper. Last grow I used newspaper but didn't check or notice it last time.
The hole pictured has visible green mold, the rest have a fuzzy grey mold.

My first instinct is to re-pot them into my final size pots with no paper this time immediately. Plants are about 4.25in tall in smallish 6" round pots. Anyone with experience dealing with mold on there equipment have any insight?

Why did you use paper in your pots again? What made you think this was a good idea? The drainage holes are there for a reason.

well what did you think would happen common sense man
I was under the impression the technique was fairly common considering the BUDS for less cfl book SPECIFICALLY told me to do so. So what I thought would happen, happened. No medium fell through the holes.

Is this wrong? Inaccurate?

Dude, the drainage holes are there for a reason - to drain water. Blocking them with anything defeats the purpose. Good drainage is necessary to keep from killing the plant! Never read the book and will save my money.

"2. Put a piece of newspaper at the bottom to prevent the growing medium from spilling out, but still allowing water to drain" - SeeMoreBuds

If its that detrimental to the grow, then what the fuck is SeeMore on about? Was it really that bad of an idea to follow his instruction?

you should be able to get hydroton pebbles at a nursery or hydro shop, put a layer on the bottom of the pot. this holds the dirt in but helps drainage too. watch out for disinformation.

The book is excellent. I think the main reason he did it was cause the drainage holes where the type that are fairly large and on the side. In retrospect I think its not necessarily needed in my case.

Thanks for the tip Hydro, and for not reminding me what drainage holes are for...

Stick with SeeMore and SeeMore problems.
Besides the obvious drainage the roots also need air they cannot get with pluged holes. If holes are an issue, a few simple rocks will work wonders.
