Monitoring HPS light temp / Quality thermometer for HPS light?

I'm setting up a Cool Tube with 600w Hortilux lamp with a variable speed Max-Fan and would like some advice on what the best way to monitor temps in the Cool Tube. Do you place a thermometer in tube itself or do you measure the exhaust air coming out of the duct. If a thermometer inside the tube is used, what's the best one to get?

Thanks,
Rob

I've been monitoring the canopy temps all through the Veg stage and will continue during Flowering. I'm asking more of a technical equipment PM type question to keep the bulb operating at optimum levels.

You are seriously overthinking this. The bulbs maintain the right temp all on their own, with a heating element built in to keep it in range.

Consider HID streetlights, say in Chicago. From 100* in the summer to well below freezing in the winter. Do you think the bulb is designed for these extremes, or do they have fans in each streetlight?

Just worry about the canopy temps.
