Mosquito Dunks

When I have a gnat problem during my indoor grow, I crumble up a Mosquito Dunk and spread it on top of the soil and water it in and my problem is usually gone in a few days. Messes w/ their reproductive process so no more baby gnats
I'm wondering if any of you know if this treatment would work on thrips?
Please let know know if you have tried this and what the outcome is.

Dr. Zymes kills all stages. Just be sure to PH it to 7.0 before foliar spray. And be sure to foliar spray at lights out or significantly increase the chance of burning your plants.

Why adjust pH first? Doesn't that make it less effective? I thought the main ingredient was citric acid.
