moving to california

So let me break down my situation here. I am looking to move to california to make my living growing this wonderful herb we all love. My first city of choice was arcata in north california i was told it was extremely crowded for a person with my interests so i moved a little south and decided i am going to attend oaksterdam on one of their southern cal campuses. My choice was to go to oakland but then the whole crime situation scared off my gf so were looking for a city that is in driving distance from L.A, Oakland or North Bay and is safer. Does anybody know of any places thats reasonably priced and somewhere, were my gf will feel safe and i can still drive to an oaksterdam campus on a daily commute?

No. Anything in that area, where you and your gf will feel safe, will not be resonably priced. I'm a little confused about commuting from LA to Oakland. That's one hell of a drive if that's what you're considering.

I'd stick to ths SF Bay area or North of there but it ain't gonna be cheap regardless of where you pick in that area. Even bad neighborhoods are pricey.

Santa Rosa is nice and so is San Jose. I guess Gilroy may be pretty reasonable by Cali standards and the Garlic Festival is always cool. Despite the housing collapse, homes/apartments are still super high compared to most places in the Mid-West or South of the country.

its hard as hell to even get a house with enough room to grow right now, and everything in cali is expensive as hell evrything. might want to really consider it, lotts of people move here trying to make growing there profession and run into problems they have never even considerd.....thats why its flooded with homeless people.

Do yourself a favor and dont go to oak U anywhere. A few friends of mine have attended/graduated and their methodology of attending to the plants needs is primitive and some thoughts on the subject are down right wrong.

eh im sure they are not completely up to standards but what can it hurt to get the certification, some good references and get a foot in the door? I see on the website they have teams asking for workers and i have no problem doing bitch work until i can make it on my own, might sound extremely cliche but id just be happy doing what i love and having the possibility of making it a career

why pay money to learn how to grow? thats not gonna get ur foot in the door anymore than the next man. this is cali everyone and there mother grows. the market is flooded with growers and product, its a bad idea to try and move to grow professionally that takes some serious cash and there is a lott of paying in before you see any paying out...........its not as easy as just going to a marijunana class and getting a marijuana job the markett is flooded with this kind of expierience.

If you're moving here for cannabis you're an idiot. Everyone is leaving this state because the economy stinks. I suggest you take a ride down to Orange County and South LA and have a look at all the closed down business and factories. Then I'd suggest you find a place in any of the other 13 states with MMJ.

#1 broke as shit from moving and not being able to find employment includeing mcdonalds every jobb is taken
#2 you could be one of the many homeless on the corner with there dogg and 420 friendly cardboard sighns
#3 one of the thousands of problems could attack your crop... harvest is never guaranteed no matter what anyone tells you, then ur at#2

Exactly. Hell I'm hoping my next harvest is enough so that I can leave before the dog and myself have one of those signs. LOL

To think people want to move here just for that is baffling.

I have to agree with the situation, there is a many miles long of fairly competent green thumbs.

For instance you can go to the local home depot and find many people who are extremely capable at building and growing all kinds of shit. They are still bumming it around however and you might end up like them.

The Oak U cert is about as trust worthy as any of those friendly accredited technical college. Sure you will meet some people but they can be met anyway.

I agree with all that was posted! I'm a California native and want to not only move out of state but the country. California is over crowded and very over priced, along with no job you setting yourself up to fail. Sorry buddy but there are other options.

I live in the bay area and grow. Not for profit, but only my own consumption. For that, the bay area and it's many dispensaries and locations for quality clones cannot be beat. In my opinion, no matter where you are in the US of A. The weather here kicks ass since it really never snows and doesn't get too hot or humid in the summer time. That said, if I were going to grow anywhere today for profit, it would probably be in the Detroit area. They have schools there as well if that's your thing, and they have only recently gotten on the medical mj tip. Which means less people are doing it, and you'll have a better shot at making money. Plus it's dirt cheap to live there. The winter sucks, but if growing for a living is your passion, it's worth checking out. my 2.5 cents! Cheers!
