Fire Completely Destroys Wainfleet House at Medical Marijuana Grow Op
Twenty Wainfleet Fire Dept. firefighters answered an already engulfed fire call at a house adjacent to a medical marijuana grow op on Shafly Street in Wainfleet Dec. 30, 2014.
A passerby at 3:35 a.m. called in to report the fire said Niagara Regional Police media officer, Derek Watson and the Wainfleet Fire Dept. was immediately dispatched.
Eleven hours later, the fire was still significantly smoldering and the house is completely destroyed.

Wainfleet Fire Dept. Chief Harry Flagg said guard dogs were on the property and the Welland Humane Society had to be called in to remove them prior to firefighters having access to the property.
“There was a delay in suppression activities due to these challenges,” said Flagg adding, “the incident is under investigation”.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office is on site to conduct the investigation.
“Two vehicles were within the compound, (and) police are in the process of trying to contact/locate the registered owners,” said Watson.
Estimated damage to the property was not yet available at press time.
