Mulch is compost in the raw. It takes time for mulch to break down into compost. It is a very good water retention and a filler for your soil. I wouldn't use more than 20%. It's especially good at the bottom of the planted area. To balance the PH in your soil, take egg shells & dry out in warm oven, or sunlight. Once completely dried, crush into a powder form. Place in hot water to make an egg shell (calcium) tea. This will balance your soil, that & Epsom salt.
