Multiples from one plant

Not orgasms, but buds (kind of similar). I'm picking flowers from a plumaria tree and wondering, why can't you pick multiple buds from the same plant? Just curious.

Do you only pick one and trash the rest..?

I think he means why you can't flower, pick the buds off..and then leave the plant to flower again next year. This IS possible, but some claim the yields/potency go down...and it isn't worth the time and effort to trim/force back into veg when you could just start another plant.
