Hey,
I am a first time grower and I wanted some feedback on my plan to make sure I am not missing anything important.
I will be growing in Seattle, Washington and I plan to grow a couple different strains outdoors. I ordered 12 seeds in an outdoor regular mix from msnl, but my friend who's dad also grows is willing to give me a couple Lemon Haze seeds.
1. This is where I get to my first question, my friend doesn't know if the seeds are autoflowers or photoperiods, and he can't ask his dad. What is my best course of action, when and how can I know what I should do?
I will be germinating the seeds inside in regular potting soil, about a week before mother's day into small growing cups, before transplanting into 5 gallon buckets and finally 20 gallon fabric pots. The soil I am going to use is a homemade supersoil, I have a lot of horses and I have a ton of 2-3 year old compost sitting with a TON of worms (like 1-2 in every handful). As I understand, this is where the plant gets its main NPK source. I plan to mix with a little bit of coco coir, perlite and kelp meal for extra micronutrients.
2. Is this a good plan for soil? What ratios should I mix? Where can I get the best coco coir for the cheapest, will a dehydrated brick be ok if I hydrate it?
Since I am growing regular seeds, I will need to sex out the plant, which I am pretty confident I can do (pollen sacks vs long pistils).
3. Once I separate the males, should I get rid of them? I was thinking that I could keep a couple plants in order to make more seeds for future seasons. Is this pretty straight-forward, and how do I make sure I get quality seeds? Is there a way I can make quality feminized seeds for not a lot of money, or should I just keep buying seeds from seed banks to ensure quality?
4. When should I apply more compost and nutrients into my soils? Do I need to change ratios when the plants start flowering?
5. How far will my plants smell? There is probably about 100 yards between them and any possible neighbors, or foot traffic.
I tried to give as much information about my grow in as little words as possible, and thank you for reading! I am really looking forward to a successful grow, and any advice and hints and answers would be awesome.
