My first grow need expert advice

Okay so i decided to grow i have ordered the beans(Bc big bud,white widow from bcseedking any feed back on them is greatly appreciated) now i have done plenty of research and saw that alot of growers use there own style in growing i am look for in your opinion the best way to grow im growing in soil and looking for maximum yeild some of the questions i have are will cfl's work fine? what wattage should i use? is it okay to grow in miracle grow moisture control? at what point can you tell if the plant is male or female? when if at all should i trim my plants? how tall do i let my plants grow before switching to 12/12? if you can answer any of these questions or have any extra advice it is greatly appreciated im really stoked about growing and hope its a wonderful experience, thanks

you are asking a lot of questions my friend. I think you need to go through this site more and pick things up here and there and put them together. I am a begginer grower.... here are some of the things I have learned.
you can use MG but they sometimes come with fungas gnats which are a pain the ass to get rid of. also dont overwater with MG because it could over fertilize your plants.

you can grow with CFL. the actual wattage Im still a little confused about . the lights can be tricky.

its not a matter of how "tall"your plants get, they are going to produce the same ammount of bud either way. its how long do you want them to grow before they are mature. some people like them to grow for 6months. while others let it grow for 3weeks before flowering, this is why you really should read up more ...

you cant tell if its male or female until you start to flower the plant...


good luck there are LOTS of begginer mistakes to be made, my advice is to not plant all your seeds so whenand if you do fuck up, you know you have more seeds you can grow.,

Just a side note; this isn't true ^^^. Once your plants are mature they will show sex even in veg. In fact I've never put a plant under 12/12 to determine sex, and I've also never mis-sexed a plant. It is a common piece of mis-information though.

well at least I did state I was a begginer grower, I am still learning myself. I have made numerous mistakes.

And from those mistakes has came knowledge...keep it up bro yer doing fine...i give the wrong information as well at times, but people think im a god because of my post count and rep lol...i missed that part in your post...you can sex with preflowers in veg...but you can force flower with 12/12 to bring them out faster and revert it back to veg once sex is determined :)

Ahh , I was kind of wondering that.... so if I force my plants to show and get rid of the males. I can put the plants back under 18/6?

what Im really trying to ask.... I have 6 plants and I want to keep 1 as a mother plant to keep cloning her. is that possible to do if I keep her seperate and under 18/6 all the time.

can you clone a plant after its flowered?

may as well sneek in some questions of my own , while I have some experts here:leaf:

No worries. Just wanted to point it out so you had the right info. Like massah says, no matter how much or how little experience we have, there's always something more to learn.

so I heard you can 12/12 to force the plant to show its sex and then go back to 18/6. would it be smart to do that to get rid of the males. whats your opnion. how soon can I force them to show me their sex?
mine are proobably to young right now as I am working with seedlings

I'm no expert, but I find that after 6 or 7 nodes the plant starts to show pre-flowers. If you wanted to force it with 12/12 then you could do it earlier, but the you have a week of transition to flowering, then another week or so to get it back to veg, so the lost time would prob be better spent letting them mature on their own. As for how soon, I really don't know because I never sex a plant by going into 12/12.

Anyone else that can speak from experience?

In Jorge's Bible he says that in theory you can keep a plant going indefinitely on a 18/6 schedule and take clones. He stated a grower that was on their c-20. So yes.

I see. Im not going to do that then. My point of view was just that I didnt want to raise 6 plants , some of them potentially being male, was kinda hoping to rid of the males and invest my time and energy into the females. Seems better for the plants just to wait. Thanks for the info.

Raise plants in Veg... Plants in 24/0 or 18/6 will show signs of sex without producing problems... When Signs of sex appear remove males. Your going to need to do it that way or get feminized plants next time...

Honestly for the sake or raising them all its not going to require that much more work... Your going to need to find out and honestly this is part of the learning process!
I'm on my 3'rd grow! First time I raised 5 from seed, one died immediately 4 I cloned and then flowered the plants... Raised 3 of the best clones as moms flowered 16 plants...
now this week i'm going to take 64 clones and do a nice SOG.

So dont flower your plants and then force to Reveg... One more reason is that plants that produce the hormone to start flowering then once they get the higher lengths of light again they take a good week or 2 to goto veg.
So the time your going to waste going into flower and back to veg could take upwards of a month or MORE! I know this from experience!

So dude this is what Id do and I bet anyone with experience would say the same:
1: Plant the whole fucking lot!
2: Veg in 18/6 until your plants show signs of "Pre Sex"
3: come back to RIU and post your pictures asking signs about sex if you don't fully understand.
4: Flower plants.

PS: Thats a plant I re veg'd notice how the top looks MOTLY... Its because the plant almost dies when its going back from flower.
That's 1 month after I went from 12/12 into 24/0... The only reason I did it is because I had too because of lack of space. I really wouldn't
ever recommend it.

I think you actually answered another one of my questions without even asking.
so you can turn a clone into a mother plant?
I want to do pretty much the exact same thing you did. plant the whole lot. weed out the males. seperate 1 female to clone. flower the rest.
then so on a so forth, develop some sort of system from there.
