My first Photoperiod

Grown from seed, seedsman, Critical Purple Kush. Mostly indica. Planted 16th November 2021.

Few teething issues at first, struggled with transplanting and knowing when to transplant, I also nearly drowned her because there wasn't enough perlite in her starter pot :wall: lesson learned :blsmoke:

No purpling but I had issues with high heat, mostly because I was trying to push my luck as far as I could with lights, I had to back off because I think the heat stress made a Calcium Def worse

IMG_20220228_004843_1.jpg

This girl's been on 12/12 For exactly 8 weeks tomorrow.

She's stopped drinking, I've gone from 1.5 litres a day to 1 every two days this week

I still think she has another two weeks to go. I also go on Vacation in 4 weeks so part of that is certainly wishful thinking. Would love some input on this?

Grown mostly with organics, biobizz bloom, and a use of Eggshell tea and Wood ash to balance a pretty fast oncoming calcium Def. (Literally the damage you see to the leaves appeared almost overnight, but I think it was made worse by some high temps of 32°C mid flower) and potash because I saw an early K Def. And corrected quickly, but I understand it's a good source of P as well)

I did just use a regular shop bought High N chemical nute.

Applied humic & Fulvic acids to the soil 5 times over the grow

Grown under 4, 25 watt Curly bulb CFLs + 2 25 Watt Blurple LEDs in veg

Added another 36 Watt CFL + 25 Watt Blurple in flower.

Light Penetration obviously sucks, I have been LSTing all the way through, from veg to flower to expose deeper into the plant and avoid trimming any leaves.

IMG_20220228_004939.jpg

At this final two week stage, is there any benefit to stripping back even 25% of the leaves to increase further penetration? The fade has definitely started, even though I gave a decent amount of nitrogen yesterday the fan leaves are still dying off

A lot of my colas run Fairly long along the stem, but deep in the canopy they're not getting much light. I rigged the new LED (25Watt) as side lighting and rotated the plant regularly to help with bud formation

But definitely wondering if thinning back the leaves to increase penetration would be a good idea

This is likely to be my last grow on a custom built light board, I've got 5 decent grows under my belt now, time to invest in a decent LED light board bongsmilie

Few more pics :-D really looking forward to smoking this after a 3 week cure when I get back from vacation

I don’t think she’ll be ready in two weeks, more like 4. It’s a very small plant for a photo, how long did you veg for? Looks good, just small. I Wouldn’t take off any leaves if your 8 weeks into flower but that’s just me, you have to get your own method of how much to take and when. Most will tell you to defoil day 1 and 21 of 12/12 light flip only.

Vegged about 6 weeks, but there was certainly a ropey couple of weeks at first, I didn't take any pictures but when she was 2 weeks old I was fairly certain I'd killed her, just transplanted and thought I'd see what would happen.

She was also vegged under 2700K CFLs, which certainly doesn't help me in veg. This year I'll have enough cash to buy a decent light set up. Mines... Certainly very botched together  (Had the time but not the funds thanks to lockdown last year lol)

Yeah I did prune on day 21. But i'd read that this strain was very hungry, I still like to leave a whole lot of fan leaves as a buffer incase I make a mistake with the feeding

It might be ready to harvest when you return from vacation
Sorry but true
Ah that's really not good news, I figured it might be possible to harvest it and then go away for 2 weeks. But at a certain point there'll be nothing I can do because no chance I'm letting anyone know it's here. Not in my country,,,

ETA: I've read that shortening the light schedule and increasing night can speed things up with a decrease in yield, I might just have to bite the bullet to get it to mature a bit faster

Better to let it die on the vine while you are gone than harvest prematurely

Is this not a bit high risk? I'll be gone for just over 2 weeks, I figure I could load it up with water before I go, but that might only buy a week if I really overwater?

Not sure what the missus would say about leaving the lights running whilst we're away either

Best case might be to cut down the whole plant and hang to dry the day you leave, then see how it looks when you get back. It will not be ideal but might be your best bet.

So are you really thinking it's at least another 5 weeks off? I leave on the 27th of March. I might have to just bite the bullet on that last week unfortunately

I was leaning towards this.

It's gonna be a hard sell to get her indoors to leave the lights running over a completely dried-out plant (There's been a bit of a kerfuffle over in my part of the world that's pushing energy prices up a bit...) And I don't know how well a week of the lights being on would do after it's dried up? Nervous about coming back to crispy buds as a minimum.

Worst case, if something goes wrong and it's discovered...

Canceling the vacation isn't worth raising as a discussion, it's for her birthday

The Humidity without all the lights on is about 60% in the grow cabinet, which might work quite well for a slow whole plant dry from what i've read anyway

Post a pic on the 25 of March
Slightly Early  But i've pulled back on the nutes a little this week as well as increased the night for about 7 days now. As well as reduced light intensity (it was getting a little hot) by pulling the light board up.

Did take a top bud for a sample last week. Which is just being smoked this week after a 5 day dry it's got me pretty bombed, but still a bit heady for my liking.

Sorry for terrible pics, it does look like all trichs are cloudy now, but I can't get a decent pic thanks to the phone camera being so naff.

Another week or so you think?

Stroke of luck, there's a decent paying work contract for 3.5 weeks early April, so the holidays been postponed anyway :blsmoke::eyesmoke: hoping to get this dried and into jars before the 5th of April now, then it can cure for a month whilst I'm away

Impressive work for cfl's!
Thanks man, I've chopped now, dried the cola that's gone missing over 5 days and it definitely got me where I wanted to be

It weighed in at about 320g wet (Even with the missing cola after wet trimming, I'll make some truffles after infusing condensed milk with the Trim ). So I'm pretty happy.

My lightboard is about as redneck as it comes, with what I'm working with I can't really complain :blsmoke:

You cant really over water in one application unless it sits in it . The water wont last two weeks imo better find another option imo

I took a major hit on light timing to try and rush it through a bit. When the replies to my thread were very much 4-5 more weeks I brought light intensity down, and went onto a 14/10 night/day for a week, then a 16/8 until chop, so yield could have been a bit better, but I've now got time to squeeze and auto in before summer gets too hot to be controllable without a huge PITA

ETA: Holiday got cancelled, I work seasonally and a 3.5 week contract came up. It'll earn enough Money to easily last 3 months without work so it's hard to say no

If you're not seeing 1.5" per day average growth then you're not doing it right. 6 weeks veg? That plant should be 4' tall..

If you go through the comments there was a bit of an issue at the start, I'd never potted up before so didn't have enough perlite in the starter pot I think, which definitely stunted growth for a bit and it's vegged under 2700 k bulbs which is a terrible idea in general
