My first time growing...A few questions

I live in southern California, and will be growing outdoors in an area that is mostly oak trees and lots of scrub, in some small/medium-sized hills. There's a fair amount of moisture for more hardy plants, but it may be a tad on the dry side. Orange trees are in the area if that helps at all. As far as wildlife, it's mostly rabbits, coyotes, and the occasional rattlesnake. Does this type of area seem okay? There's plenty of places to grow, and it's all well-hidden...and I have pretty easy access to it on an almost daily basis, if need be.

I'm thinking of growing around eight-ten plants in various spots, on the sides of a hill, or in the shade of other trees. Good idea?

Summer is coming up, so I'm concerned about the heat ( this is in a valley ), but I do plan to have these in the shade for about half the day, with the help of the nearest tree or hillside blocking the sun past 5-6 pm. Tempuratures are mild around now, but by late June into July it will get up to around 95 or higher. How do the plants hold up in high heat for half a day? ( More watering needed? )

Since the dirt is a little on the dry side here, once I moisten it a bit and put some good soil in around the seeds, how often will I need to water, both before and after it sprouts? I'm trying to do this without having to go out and buy various products, so I'm hoping it'll come out okay with Mother Nature's help.

A few other questions...

1. If I plant around late May, when will I likely see a sprout? The first week of June?

2. When will flowering likely occur?

3. How soon until I can cut my leaves and enjoy my yield?

Looks like you need to read a bunch about OD growing/guerilla growing techniques. The are MANY cannabis forums out there that have the info you seek.

a few things right off the top.

sounds like a good area. I have a friends in SoCal who do an OD every year with great success.

You will see that most people who have done this previously will start out with transplants..not seeds. If this is not possible...you'll be having a tough(er) time.... (wabbits..silly wabbits...)

most folks also amend the local soils...bringing in large amounts of soils/goodies to nourish the plants and to keep Ph levels in check...and to retain moisture. They also dig BIG holes...cus big roots make big plants and big plants make big buds. No roots..no buds.

you need at least 5-6 hours of direct sunshine per day. A SE facing slpe is preferred because it gives the plants good AM sunshine in most areas....pre cloud build up in the afternoon...and it also gives the plant time throughout the rest of the day to use that energy to make leaf/stem/bud...depending on where you are in the season/grow.

READ. You can still start stuff inside under floros and get em outside in time. June 21 is the longest day...and tfrom there on out ...at some point in time..is when they will start to flower. If you know your area/strain....take the flower time and count BACKWARDS from the time you know it's gonna frost. This is the LATEST you can stick em out and still have em finish. They will be smaller...but i think in the long run you would be ahead to start em...and possibly even sex em BEFORE putting em out. this means less trips to the spot...and if possible....only FEMALES there. With males...you'll probably get a seeded crop unless you're on top of it and there regularly...and that is risky in most places.

good luck

Are rabbits going to be a serious problem for me?

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to pull off transplants. I currently live with my father for the time being, and can't start anything in a pot here. And even if I could, it'd be pretty hard for me to go out to thr growing area, as it isn't terribly far off some hiking trails. There's no one on these trails at night, but I'd have to walk past a couple houses near the beginning of it, and I couldn't pull it. So I'll have to go about it in the ground, to start with.

They'll definetly be getting about 6 hours of AM ( and afternoon ) sunlight. And the morning in the area is typically clouded over and somewhat misty, so that's good too, I suppose?

I'm actually not sure about the strain I'm growing yet, as I'll be getting some seeds from my friend in a few days, but once I know more -- and if I have any questions regarding this -- I'll ask around here.

Thanks for the help.

you could cut the bottom of a two litre coke botle and leave that over them for the first couple of weeks. this will act as a small greenhouse at the same time so mite even make them grow better.
