My plant is getting yellow leaves.

I set the pH at 5.5-6.0 and after about 12 hours it climbs to about 10. I have to keep adding the powder they gave me in the kit to lower the Ph.
There is also a slime forming on the rocks.
This is my first time using the hydroponic method.
