While I have another grow journal under my name, this will be the first one people can subscribe to.

The Dinafem Blue Hash has been in 12/12 for two weeks after about 8 weeks in veg.

The Dinafem Lemon OG Kush just went into 12/12 today after about 8 weeks of veg.

IMG_9686.jpg

Here's the specifics of both:

Grown in Happy Frog Soil
Using the "starter kit" from General Organics
Vegged under T5 HO four-bulb lights 6500K
Seeds were purchased from Attitude Seed Bank
The Blue Hash is in a 5 gal Smart-Pot
The Lemon Kush is in a 5 gal Home Depot bucket modified with numerous 1/2" holes for air flow to the roots
Both plants have been topped twice
Both plants have had minor LST (The Blue Hash has had two branches almost break off due to operator malfunction...but are both doing ok with the use of Bamboo and wire-ties).

After growing relatively larger plants and having the bottom half only produce pop-corn buds, even with the T5 blazing the bottom, I decided to opt for LSTing these, and keeping the height down (in theory) while having more branches reach the top for a better yield.

I've never grown either of this strain, and am looking forward to see how they come out.

As far as lighting during flowering.....I am starting them out under my 4' four-bulb T5 HO with two 6000k and two 3000k bulbs. I have a 400 watt HPS that is next to the T5, but until I harvest the stinky White Widows I can't run the HPS due to heat issues that require me to leave my grow room doors open.

I have made a video of my grow room to help those that are following get an idea of my set-up:

I welcome all to ask questions and give advice. If you're a troll....please move on.

I started this journal as these plants went into 12/12 on purpose. Posting pics of baby plant's every move isn't something I wanted to do here. I feel they start getting interesting once they start flowering.

I have some White Widows nearing harvest....it's in my signature "other grow journal". Thank you for the kind words. More pictures within a few days.

One of my concerns with my grow room is heat. I've been freaking out when the temps head into the 80's. Someone pointed out that weed grows outside in many climates that include 90-100 degrees daily. I don't want to let my temps get that high, but am considering firing up the 400 watt HPS along with the T5 and see where the temps go with the grow-room doors closed.

I also am going to install a dedicated air intake that will bring in fresh air from a cooler room than what I'm drawing from now. This will open my options in regards to upgrading or adding more lights to my flower area.

Weekly update:

If you haven’t noticed, I don’t update daily on here since there’s no drama going on with my grows…..at least for now.

One thing I’ve been dealing with is heat issues in the grow room, and I finally decided to say “damn the security deposit” and cut a hole in an existing wall for a 4” vent and installed what I call a “fan canon” as it looks like a canon.

While the fan moves a TON of air without the duct-work, it slows to a crawl once it’s hooked up to the 4” ducting.

IMG_9693.jpg

I'm a computer systems engineer, and apparently I am not a very good aerodynamic engineer. I'll be upping my venting to 8" and be done with it.

Onto the plants....it's time for a few pics:

I was backed up getting these two plants under my flowering lights. I had two of three white widows that were stubborn about getting ready to harvest, but finally last night I was able to pull the second out and harvest it.....leaving clear sailing for both plants.

In order....from left to right, Lemon OG Kush, Blue Hash, and the last of the White Widow.

A closer look at the Blue Hash

IMG_9707.jpg

This plant is doing a ton of pre-flower stretching and has many branches racing up to the lights. It has some great yield potential.

The Lemon OG Kush is about 2 weeks behind the Blue Hash, and is just finishing it's first week of 12/12.

IMG_9708.jpg

Both plants have been topped twice, and I'm really liking how they're growing out. The Lemon Kush is producing many more side branches than the Blue Hash, and both plants seem very happy.

Like I said....very little drama.....so far.

Oh....I forgot to mention a few things.....While I was happy with the semi-white walls, I opted to put up some mylar....What a BIG difference!

I also am tempting fate as I am running both the T5 and my HPS which really brings the temps up to an uncomfortable 90 degrees. To prevent it from going any higher, I have the T5 on the normal 12/12, and during the same time I have the HPS alternate one hour on, one hour off to allow cooling during the "day cycle". I am calling this my "Partially cloudy day" cycle.

So, I'm looking at my Blue Hash plant and am unhappy that 1/2 the plant is much taller than the other half. Part of the reason for this is that I broke the two branches created by my first topping and they've never kept up with the un-mangled branches.

I decided to do some LSTing during the last stages of pre-flowering stretching and staked down the taller branches.

IMG_9716.jpgIMG_9713.jpgIMG_9714.jpgIMG_9715.jpg

My question is.......Am I too late LSTing these as the stretching is about done? I am sure I'm not hurting them, but am not sure they're going to benefit from my manipulations.

Temps in the room, even with my 1 hour on and 1 hour off, are 91 degrees. I'll be upping my intake fan's venting from 4" to 8" and unleash the high-flow fan that has been restricted by my miscalculation of using 4" dryer vent stuff.

Then my problem will be that my exhaust venting will not keep up with the intake, and I'll be blowing out stinking air into the rest of the house. I'm going to have to up my exhaust fan and venting to rectify this......do grow room improvements ever end?

I originally had my "fan-canon" going from a 8" fan to a 4" dryer vent. Apparently physics apply, disregarding the venture affect, and you can't put 8" of air through a 4" hole.

Considering I am giving up my security deposit for the 4" hole, I doubled-down and cut an 8" hole in its place....and used an 8" pipe from fan to grow-room.

Last night my flower-room was 91 degrees with my HPS going one hour on, one hour off...tonight, with the HPS running the entire 12/12....my flower room was 81 degrees....tops.

This is a big-deal for me. Having control over my flower-room temps now allows me to add CFL's or more importantly (in my mind), adding my 400w MH bulb to the mix. This would get me to the 1000 watt that seems to be the number relating to amazing grows. 400w HPS + 400w MH +200+ watts T5 HO florescent.

I've studied professional grow rooms and it's the combination of HPS and MH that produces big-ass yields. The T5 HO is just a bonus in this picture.

I'm starting to think I'm talking to myself on this thread.....is anyone out there?

How much of a big difference? Should I get rid of my high tech white cardboard and get some mylar? Lady H x

When putting together my grow room an experienced grower told me that flat white is actually better than mylar, saying that it disperses light more evenly. Since my walls were an off-white (just a bit of yellow in it), I figured I was good to go. I had two grows with that set-up and never gave it much thought. Then someone on here recommended the mylar and once I put it up, it was like having an additional light in the room. The bottom of my plants were much more illuminated, and the room in general is now brighter.

I contribute some of the improvement due to not having a true white paint on the walls, and even though they were almost white, a surprising amount of light was absorbed by my light-yellow walls.

Since I have my room temps under control, I've been toying with different ideas in regards to lighting. With an additional 600 watt HPS that I brought home today, I had several options.

1. 400w MH + 400 or 600w HPS (not all three)
2. 600w HPS with 4' T5 HO four-bulb and either 400w HPS or MH
3. T5 HO with both 400w HPS/MH

The problem with a 5x7 room is having enough room for a bunch of lights. As much as I like the T5 HO, its length restricts where I can put it in my room....especially if I want to use two HPS lights. Part of the issue is that I still have a veg cabinet in the flower room, and have nowhere else to put it.

While I only have two plants in 12/12 at the moment, I do have six plants in veg that I'll be having to have room for in the flower room in 8 weeks or so. So....after rearranging the grow room again, I have the 600w and 400w HPS hanging over the two plants....and the T5 is on vacation.

wow sound great lilroach great work. I was thinking about getting another 400wt as well. 1 400wt bare bulb vert keeps temps down alot for me dont know how much it will rise if i put another 400 in.I will keep looking in on the grow.:)

Well.....I've been playing the "Grow-room light-shuffle" the past few days in an attempt to dial in the right mix of lighting. I found that hanging the 600+400w HPS makes the room, even with my high output intake fan, very hot. I pulled the 600w and put up the 400w MH which made the grow room temps almost manageable. But I'm not happy with the light mix I have going on. The two spectrums don't "mix" the way I would like, having both plants get light from both bulbs....but one plant gets the MH, and the other gets the HPS. So, for the past few days I've been rotating the two from one bulb to the other.

So.....I'm back to my heat issues if I want 1,000 watts over the plants. I am about to give up on HPS and even MH and revert back to my T5 4' four-bulb, and add CFL's for side lighting.

I've ordered two inline fans: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YFADW8/ref=pe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

For an additional 480 CFM exhaust. I'll be running two separate exhaust vents with these.....and be done with venting.....I hope.

Now onto the pics of the Dinafem Blue Hash, and the Lemon OG Kush:

The Blue Hash is budding nicely. It has many buds at or near the top of the plant, and NO branches with pop-corn buds at the bottom. I'm finding it hard to take a "lights-off" pic with the mylar in the background.

IMG_9726.jpg

It's been in 12/12 for about a month.

My attempts to grow a beautifully topped Lemon Kush plant. I topped it twice, but may have done so a bit early as I have a shitload of stretch going on and the entire plant looks like a candle opera.

IMG_9731.jpgIMG_9727.jpg

While this plant is now about 3 feet wide and 30 inches tall, I'm not having ANY issues of light penetration. I have a feeling as the buds get heavy on this plant, I'll have about 30 stakes holding everything up.

I'm about to make a big shift in nutrients today. I've been using General Organics for the past three grows and now I am switching to "Jacks's Bloom Booster" recommended to me by someone I've become a friend to, and is my mentor. The reason is that my past two grows have been ok....the buds have been of the fluffy variety.....and my yield has been on the light side.

My next entry will be after the exhaust venting is in place, along with the final (I hope) light change, and the new nutes.
