so wbd you had bad luck with that potting mix ?????
i noticed most soils that contain slow releasing nutrients aren't over that high in a sense bare essentials
i think don;t quote me on this if a person waters less and with less amounts it might work better
i think most ppl come to believe that flooding your medium is the way to water
IMO i think its totaly wrong . its proven that root systems effect yields so creating a mass rooting system will only bring you better yields how i do this is only adding like a cup of water on top and also bottom feeding plants forcing roots to search for water
Well, first off you can burn plants in expensive non-MG soils too. I burn shit in Fox Farm Ocean Forest all the time, other people do too.
But with the MG "feeds over 3 month" soils and any other products like that, the soil contains these little pellets that, with water, dissolve over time like a gelcap pill in your stomach. However, I doubt MG puts so much care into the accuracy of release and dosage like the pill makers do, but that's neither here nor there. The point is, you have no control over when those pellets burst, how many of them burst at the same time, etc. Will the soil work? Yes. Will it kill your plants? It's definitely possible. Likely? People say different things, for my time and grow space I'm not really inclined to find out for myself.
Maximum yield is about total control. That is the game for many people here.
I realize there are others whose game involves spending as little money as possible.
To answer your question, yes I have burned plants in MG soil. I don't think I ever killed anything but I have grown with MG's bloom food in the past too, the crystals in the box kind, and I definitely have better results with other products, both in terms of yield and quality. It's an inferior product, but sure I guess it can work.
I agree with you, the time release pellets will release quicker the more water they come in contact with; heavy watering early on is a recipe for burning and possibly killing a young plant growing in the MG. And I do like you, I make those roots search for water and try to delay until the last possible moment.
