Need a Bit of Advice

Hey Guys, just starting out my 1st grow and trying to take in as much information i can as i read through these forums. I'm thinking I've got a pretty good idea how everything is supposed to go, but im doing things a bit different as some may say. I'm actually growing in a homemade grow box BUT outside (My grow box is enclosed but outside on the balcony).

My main concerns:

I've heard you need to have your exhaust fan all the time (which is not a problem), but how do i go about not getting any "light leaks" since the exhaust fan is on the top of the box. If i put a blanket over the top to not get any light leaks, that will block the exhaust fan. I am also getting light leaks from the air intake at the bottom of the tub.

Right now, I'm not getting any light leaks when it's supposed to be black, but i know it may cause a problem when i change the light cycle, or when i "harvest" the buds. Maybe some of you guys have any ideas on what to do?

I can't have the box inside, thus why its outside on the patio. Hopefully I'm making a bit of sense.

you can cover the fan with a box that has a holes on the side where there isn't much light, so that way light does not go directly through the fan

Yeah, i guess i can give that a try. I'm just really nervous about not letting the hot air escape fast enough haha.
