Need advice--indoor or outdoor?

I'm lucky to have privacy and live alone in the country, so I can either grow indoors in a spare bedroom or outdoors. I'm trying to figure out which would be best for me.

The outdoor situation:
Although I have a fair bit of property I have deer and rabbits around all the time as well as fieldmice. So what I would do is plant in containers on the back porch which faces west and has some southern exposure, so it would have midday-afternoon light.
Although I do have a lot of privacy I have two possible leaks in it. One, the Terminix guy who comes once a month to spray around the house.-I usually have a day's notice beforehand. Two, the kid who mows the lawn a couple times a month, and I don't know he's gonna come until he shows up, which could be when I'm not home. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't narc, but he might get sticky fingers.
Most of the time in these two situations I think I could move the plants indoors for a few hours, but would that stress them? Also I'm around the 45th parallel and worry that winter will come before I get in my crop (have just sprouts now)

The indoor situation:
I'm a college student so I can't afford an expensive setup, but I do have an small extra bedroom that I could set up as a grow room. My problem is without the $ to spend on new lights I have two overhead bulbs and 2-3 household lamps I could relocate there, so 2 lamps with probably 100 watts each plus 1 13-watt compact fluorescent. From my reading that doesn't sound like enough light.

BOTH! Its great when youv got both as you can really appreciate watching the outdoor girls grow and still have the constant yeilds througout the year with indoor. Outdoor plants dont really need much money spent on them, some good quality soil, light, water and love is all you need so it wont stretch the budget. Peace
