Need Expert Opinions on HPS 1000W Kit

The first kit comes with an air-cooled relector and the second has an open-air reflector. Air-cooled relectors are designed to help you remove the heat generated by the light by connecting duct work to suck hot air out. The ballast is controls the current going to the light. I'm not an electrician and won't pretend to know exactly how they work, but I do know they are required for hid lights and that digital ballasts are better than the older magnetic ones.

thx thats good to know so they both do the same but if i go with the wing reflector im gonna need some way of cooling and the other one i can just hook up and do duct work

You got it. Personally, I'd go with an air-cooled reflector. I only use a 400w in my 2x4x5 tent and I know I would not have been able to keep temps under control with an open-air reflector.

Yes, just a matter of connecting flex duct to each end. At one end, you can either pull air from outside your room or connect a carbon filter and the other end will be connected to your fan pulling air out of your room. Here's a quick sketch to give you an idea. Flex duct is easy to work with and can be connected with duct tape or hose clamps. Your fan can be iniside or outside the room. I'd recommend useing the setup on the right, otherwise you'll need an additional fan for your filter. You'll want flex duct at both ends so your filter can mounted in place and allow your light to raised and lowered. This is the ducting I use because it's plastic and I found that the foil style ended up getting lots of tiny holes in it. http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-6-Inch-Clear-Ducting-6-Feet.asp

I gave you sound advice. If you don't have the money for good equipment start smaller.

Good equipment isn't directly related to cost. Pretty much all grow stuff comes from China now anyways so it's more about the vendor you are buying from and the warranty they may/may not offer, IMO.

Also to another poster, digital ballasts aren't necessarily "better". They cost more, are much more difficult to repair than a magnetic, and don't make your power bill any cheaper. The only real benefit they offer is when they are dimmable.

Not all digital ballasts are dimmable. The advantages are that they run cooler, quieter and more efficiently
