Im new to growing, and I thought id try and grow some plants. I have a good sized closet in my room that will fit a couple of plants, Ive just germinated and planted a seed, its in my window atm and there is hardly any sunshine just rain. It hasn't broke through the soil yet but i was just wondering instead of growing them in my window could anyone help me out so i can put them in my closet. I dont really know alot about lighting but i have 2x18w cfl lamps, will that be enough light for them for a while? Any help I would be very greatfull.

how big is the closet? a 400w hps/mh would work if it isnt too big. you need to get something for odor during flowering, so a 6 inch carbon fan and carbon filter too. i would also suggest getting a cooltube. thats just lighting you need all the little things too.

that will work... but really the base line for lighting is an 85w CFL, the big ones! with those little lights your gonna need a lot of them to produce anything really.

window sill? no thats no good. besides the fact its not really a controlled environment, you dont even have sunshine. and the last thing you want is someone seeing your plant in the window, who can afford a better light, and i hear window breaking rocks are free.

Thanks for the quick reply. here's some pics of the plant in my closet id say the closet is about 2ft x 3ft. Its only been in their 3 days and its grown a little bit already under the 2x18w cfl's. To me the leaves look like their starting to curl under, can anybody tell me if this setup will be ok for a couple of weeks till i can get a better light? or will this be alright to grow just 1 plant?

my god people hes growing 1 plant and may not have the funds for a full setup. here erb go to this thread, it will tell you everything you need to know about lighting with cfls. after visiting this thread and getting the lights that you need go to walmart and get whats called "emergency camping blankets" they are only a couple bucks a pop and are about 6 ft long and 4 ft wide. great for the walls of your grow space as reflectors. also pick up a cheap 2 dollar thermometer and they even have one with a little circular meter for measuring humidity i think its around 4 bucks. heres a link to the lighting thread. http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/122824-kamels-cfl-guide.html also pick up a cheap fan and keep it blowing on your plant at all times but dont have it blowing so hard that the damn thing looks like its in a hurricane. this will help it to grow stronger for you. and help keep good air flow around it so it will get oxygen.

Thank you very much tranceus, This is exactly the info i was looking for, Your'e right I don't have that much money to be buying a full set-up for 1 plant. I will check that out now. Do you think the plant looks healthy? and is the fan in the picture to big? I have it on the lowest setting just don't want the seedling to get to cold. Thanks for the help Much appreciated.

i think you have a beautiful plant there and you are going to do a wonderful job. keep the temperature in there between 72 and 75 degrees you could go up to 80 but i wouldent advise it. go get that thermometer and no that fan is just fine but like i said make sure it isnt blowing so hard that the baby looks like shes in a windtunnel a little movement is ok though, shell grow strong and reward you with good fruit for your efforts. 1 more thing. when watering its normal to water the pot until you see runoff and dont water again until your soil is dry about a inch to a inch and a half deep. check this by inserting your finger in the soil around the edge of the pot, at this stage she isnt drinking too much water so you wont be watering often. good luck my friend and keep us updated with pics along the was as problems might occor and if they do we will be here to help.

All great advice, Tranceus, but the simple answer to the OP is yes, you have time to get all of those things. It's easy to get crazy about your first plant and coddle it to death. Make sure it has the right food, water, and light cycle for a couple of weeks. Keep those lights very close to the plant. You have time to read some of the many great threads on here. Wishing you all the best.

Lots of good advice already - my only input might be to get a fresh coat of flat white paint on the walls of your closet.
That will help maximize the lighting you have.
Good luck.

if u decide u need more lights u can do like i did and run an extension cord into ur closet and attach some outlet socket plug converters which are basically light bulb sockets that plug into a wall or extension cord socket...... i picked up some at wally world for like a buck a piece similar to these http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-PCS-110V-OUTLET-SOCKET-PLUG-STANDARD-LIGHT-BULB-ADAPTOR-CONVERTER-NEW-/220897123256
those are good, just remember they are plastic and if it get too hot will melt and cause more harm then good. if you can find ceramic ones then thats better. i would get better lighting after a grow or 2 anyways.

then im definately a cunt because yes that shit still gets hot. its like an incinerator for electricity. the hot feed ends in the bulb and travels elsewere. but the very end of the electric hot feed is the light bulb it self. its like plugging yourself into the wall socket for twelve hours then jumping off and saying " Im cool ". yea, no......

here is a picture of my plant a week in the pot today :D

oh yea and it seems as if youve went ahead and filtered your soil? or is that how it started? filtered meaning you took a potting soil and took out a few things you didnt find necesary. youre growing marijuana, not yourself. the plant needs pearlite or somesort of absorbant in your soil.
what exactly didyou start with and what did you do to it. because id recomend new soil with atleast pearlite after that thing matures and you wont hurt it.
