Need Help Getting Started in My Closet!

I need to know a good setup for a small closet grow of a few plants. I'm planning to go to Lowe's and pick up some soil, lights etc. and need to know what I can get for not too much. All of the posts on here I've seen suggest soil like Foxfarm, Black Gold, etc. that would be a very far drive. The lighting setups I've read have confused me honestly...

Also I've already been growing a few plants in my closet, but they don't seem to be doing well. One has grown quite a bit but the leaves are looking brown and wilted on the edges. I'm using Miracle Grow potting mix, and I think that may be causing it. I also used some MG plant food but I stopped doing that immediately. That's why I'm wanting a totally new setup.

unless you have around $400-$500 for a nice start up I would just save what money you have until you can get more $

I'm not looking for a perfect setup, just a good organic soil and nutrient mix, and some cheaper light suggestions that will at least keep a couple plants growing healthy.

Thing is you need a good PH and PPM meter, plus nutes, lighting, medium, fans, odor filters... 2brain's even short

well with $500 you could have 250w mh/hps HID lighting with air cooled fan and filter over a water farm. You could scrog 1 plant and get i would say 3-8oz fairly easy.

I have a HO 4' T5 but just for veg so can't say what it would do in flowering. Without HID lighting I doubt it would produce very good in flowering.

EDIT: yes forgot about ph/ecm, nutes, seeds etc..

Well I already have seeds and fans, and i dont need a watering system or anything, I'll be around to take care of them. What kind of nutes shoud I get and shoudl I get anything to mix in with the soil? Also I won't need to worry about flowering for a little while, so I"ll take care of that later.

I still use General Hydroponics they're cheap and good! they work both for hydro and soil

I agree just use genhydroponic's FLora Nova Bloom for vegg and bloom....It has enough Nitrogen in it for vegging... CFL are ridiculously great for vegging, but I would get a 250w or 400w for flowering.

CFL are great I use them all the time, I have a 400W mh/hps ballast sitting somewhere, the thing is the darn bulb it burns out of nothing!! it so breaks my balls!

if u wanna start cheap the easteist way to do it is honestly get u a power strip with 3 42w cfl bulbs and the adapter that goes from a 2 prong outlet to a light socket lowes carries all of this but I would definately recommend getting soil that is at a hydro store I paid 20 bucks for 1.5 cubic feet of FFOF and 17 bucks for FFLW start them in the LW and then transplant to FFOF once they get bigger the temp and humidity meter can be gotten at walmart for a few bucks look for an acurite Humidity meter i paid 14 bucks for 2 of them last night get u a small fan that u can sit on the floor in the closet and then a few pots to plant in I have spent a total of about 300 bucks but I have 2 105 cfm fans made my dayton look like pc fans on steroids and I built a cab

I went up there and got 3 26w cfl lights, that's the highest watt they had. I put it on the small plant I had going and I'm already seeing it grow and heal. I also got Miracle Grow organic mix, hopefully it will be less acidic. I got a cheap pH meter but I don't think it works, it's just a plastic stick with a meter on top but it never moved without me shaking the needle. I assume I need to get a digital one.

I do have one more question, I'm trying to get a seed to sprout, it's already germinated and I planted it. It's been about 4in under a smaller 13w cfl I had for about 2 1/2 days in moist soil. Should I be seeing anything yet, or am I doing something wrong? I placed the root down with the seed slightly out of the soil.
