need help with cob build pls

hi all I was thinking of buying 4x cxb3590 db 36v, from our good friends at cutter electronics, and am wondering what driver to buy since they are out of stock on the 250w ones that they have, I have found this hlg-240h-c1400b but idk much about matching drivers with cobs, I would also like to mount these cobs to these heat sinks that is the same one used in the mau5 setup, https://www.cdiweb.com/PortalProductDetail.aspx?ProdId=573584&fmt=1 , is there a smaller driver I should use for 4x 36v 3590s, or will this one be good? or could I use like a 150w driver for this? im very unsure =) pls help !!!

hi,
hlg-240h-c1400b can handle more then 4 x cxb, maybe the HLG-185H-C1400B would be good for you. that driver can handle 4 x cxb(36volt version) good, then each cob would run with 50watt , i think nice config. But HLG-185H-C1400B is only good if the heatsink can handle the cob @ 1,4a , but if its the same heatsink like in mau5 setup then it should handle it.

Would these listed items be good enough to start out with I can expand later wen and if I feel necessary and this setup will cost me around 450 aud I'm looking to put I a 2x2 or a 2.5x2.5 both spaces are 6foot tall I'm guessing around 5-8k lumen per sq foot depending on size of room, any experienced diy led hobbyists could help me with my decision?

yeah should be good for 6ft², the ppfd should be around 800. i think thats a good value.

but i have to say the heatsink which you linked, you have to drill the holes for the led holder and reflector holder by your self. and if you wanne upgrade this light which u wanne build in future, then you should choose maybe the other driver hlg-240h-c1400b. with hlg-240h-c1400b you could add a 5th cxb in future if you want. But this is not really necessary. I would build it with HLG-185H-C1400B and 4 cxb, pretty good setup for 6ft²

https://www.cdiweb.com/ProductDetail/LPF11180ZHEC-mechatronix/573585/ this is the same style heatsink just silver and it shows the mounting holes im not 100% sure but it looks identical to a mau5 heatsink
yeah i think it is the same heatsink, but without the holes for cxb 3590. check this youtube video from growmau5
, you will see the heatsink which he use has more holes. Cutter made some extra holes for the cxb (see in the video the bigger silver looking holes)

Oh okay do you know of any predrilled heatsinks to suit the cxb3590 or is drilling my own holes not too hard with a battery operated drill and the right bit?

Am starting to think it might be better to just get a active cooled 30inch heat sink from heatsink usa with the 5.886 profile and put my 4x cxb 3590 on it

If you aren't confident you can drill holes the heatsinkusa is going to be just as easy to screw up, heavier, and need fans. Real talk, yo.

Consider prebuilt. Or step down to a smaller cob and pick from one of many inexpensive options in heatsinks.

200W overkill for that size space anyway.

Hi,
i think its not a real overkill, if i look at a build example from supraspl for 6ft² . Should be really good ppfd value for flower, and for veg he could dimm down(not to much and not to less)

@Malocan Sorry, I thought he was 2x2? He has quite a few threads going.
sorry for all the threads and confusion I just want to build one of these so bad, and im having a bit of trouble finding solid info but you guys at rollitup seem to know whats up so that's why im here, I have a 2x2 and a 2.5x2.5 , tossing up wich would be the better size for a 4x cxb I thnk ill use the 2.5x2.5 , currently about to order the cxb3590 36v db 4000k, 4 cob package with ideal holders and chiploks that come with it for 176 usd with the discount @ cutters

this is exactly what im after, im really keen on building this, im fairly concerned about the shipping costs at heatsink usa though, or Is there a way I can setup my own ups/fedex account number, to get the free shipping, I don't have fedex or ups in Australia I don't thnk

Ok, that light makes perfect sense for 2.5x2.5, as Malocan said.

Have you asked Cutter about buying predrilled heatsinks? Or even just buying his 4 cob kit, which seems to be what you want. 4xCXB3590 at 1.4A with a driver and holders and all that good stuff.

thnking it might be an okay option but u can certainly build one cheaper couldn't you? currently cutter are on back order for the heatsinks and mau5 kits and I really don't like waiting
