need help with my clones (pics included)

I tried cloning for the first time directly to soil, I usually start from seed.
anyways, these lovely ladies were doing as well as I had expected, but they have been doing some funny things as of late.
I cut them just over a week ago, and put them into soil and into a makeshift humidity dome. The yellowing on the bottom leaves should be a sign that they are using nutes from those leaves to produce roots, so I was not worried about that. The top leaves started to droop, and once I put them back under the dome, they stood right back up. Earlier today I went to check on them and saw that the top leaves were beginning to yellow/brown (gold really), so I assumed it was heat stress and removed the dome. Now they have started to wilt in all types of funny ways.

any ideas on what is happening here? any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I've never used soil to clone but it looks to wet. Also using a make shift dome could be a problem if it doesn't have a vent

They are not rooting. Poor choice of methods. A glass of plain old tapwater, changed out every other day, works far better.

By the way I was shown this in 1970 by my wife who cared not a whit for pot. A broken branch one day and me howling about it and she plopped it into water. The damned thing grew roots in a little over 10 days. Great roots too. No gels or hormones. No nutes in the water!!!!

no Hormones but plenty of nuts comes from all the fish fuckin.

I like the aerocloners for production but you can't argue the cost and effectiveness of water in a glass if you are just cloning a few. I use a glass for each clone rather than having to disentangle roots.

She looks cactus sorry mate. That whitening of the tips/edges looks like the symptoms of severe root rot. I'd pull the clone out of the dirt and see what's going on down there. Forget the clone, take another and put it in a glass of water like hotrod mentioned above or checkout the DIY section on here. I saw a thread on a coffee can cloner, using pieces of sponge in cut squares out of the top.

It's way too wet dude. That clone is toast. When cloning in soil, you water a pot or cup until runoff one time, insert your clone, put the dome on, and you don't touch it until you see bright green new growth. Just spray the dome every once in a while and that will keep the soil the perfect amount of moist. You don't have to water the soil or spray the clones at all. A heat mat could be added if the room temperature is under 70 degrees. It's stupid easy.
