Hi everyone im looking to start a dwc setup but i have some questions like for starters can i start with a single seed or do i need multiple? Q2:do i start adding nutrients from day one? And lastly i got my supplies from a hydro shop do i still need to have a completely black room and do the 12hr lights on/off method? The guy who owned the shop had his setup out in the open so i wasnt sure since he was using tomatoes.....thanks for any help or tips in advance i added some pics for the setup i will be using

If you've never done it before your going to have your work cut out. jump on the Dwc forum and read a lot before you start. Really I'd recommend starting in a soilless mix if it's your first grow, just germination to seedling is a job in itself for beginners. Good luck.

Answer 1. Yes you can start from a single seed. Buy a feminised seed.
Answer 2 No, your seedling will have baby leaves which will provide some food for the plants very early life.
Answer 3 You want 99% light proof environment and control the lighting via a timer to control the plants state. 12/12 Is for flowering. You want to start with 18/6 or something like. Its the dark period that dictates what the plant does.

Take the advice of those above and do more research, you need to learn the basics.
The free books are great but you can also try growweedeasy.com which is a good site for beginners and structured simply enough to find the relevant info.

Just gone back to soil from RDWC due to lack of space in new house, DWC is a great method but as stated above the key to any method is research.

With dwc the most important part is nutrient solution temps as this determines how much DO you have in your water. you will need a chiller if using hid lights as temps to high can cause root rot.

You will need to control light so a tent or lined room with no light leaks is vital for the flowering stage, 12/12 light cycle.

i can not stress enough how important water temps are in this method, get it right and its probably the fastest way to veg a plant as growth is simply astounding, but get it wrong and you will wish you was growing in coir or soil.

for get bubble as well try and waterfall or flooming! these are much better at oxygenating the water than pushing bubbles through it.

Boooooom Happy Growing
