New grower here

Hi everyone

Ive ordered a few seeds to start a grow and cant wait till they get here. Im from western aus so its a bit hard for me to get some good seeds hence why i ordered. Hopefully they make it to me fine
Bit of a newbie when it comes to hydro as when i was younger i just grew them in pots outside but once i start i will post up a journal for my grows.

But just a quick question for everyone with my closet grow, Its 1.5mx1.5mx2m so should i get a 400watt hps or a 600watt hps. Im thinking the 600watt hps might be a bit to big but i want to get as much out of my plants as i can.

i would go with the 600 but make sure it has a selective switch,so if it gets to hot in there you can turn down.my opinion on lighting is you cant have enough because if its burning your girls you can turn down ballast or move the light up.some strains take to lights well and others dont.when i first started i bought 2 400 watt and now i wished i would have just gone with 1000 watt.

not on subject but given where you are you'll need to consider cooling, as mentioned a ballast that you can step down from 600 to 400 will be worth, think about a cool box for cooling the light and a good strong inline fan on your filter to suck the heat out and push it outside or to another room
if you know some local growers talk to them about what they do, I know from friends who've moved over there you guys have some unique heating issues. Some summers you guys get are conditions the Cali growers here have nightmares about

thanks guys. yeah it gets pretty darn hot in summer here but lucky i have aircon Im gona run a carbon filter with a fan and a fan at the bottom off my closet to keep air circulating. The duct from the carbon filter is going to go straight into my roof so that way i can hide most of the smell. Cant wait for the seeds to get here!!

Sounds like a little more than 4 x 4 I would go with a 1,000 watt air cooled not sure about soil and shit yall get down under just going to need to do some research and few down under dudes around that can help you with local shit to use unless you go hydro but like the US I'm sure it ain't really the cheapest way to yield some dank buds stating out but depending on the style it will be cheaper than I pay in the long run minus all the great outdoor soil I'd have to go out of pocket for otherwise.

At least the 600w. More light, the better! ......rw

I was thinking of using the expandable clay pellets in my buckets with the trickle setup. Do you know if soil is better for my girls cos if it is i will use soil.

Im only going to grow 4 at a time so would the 1000w be to much?

soil can be an easier medium to start with, but it's entirely down to you and how much time you have to put in. I do soil because it's low maintenance for reasonable yield
try get yourself one of Ed Rosenthals books and that'll give you a good crash course on mediums etc. he's very bare bones facts about stuff
