New Grower needs Help

This is first time grow for me, actually id like to call it more of an experiment. Its been about 1 month since I started this experiment and have been pleasantly surprised. I never expected to get as far as I have but am curious to continue my endeavor.

Currently using 2 CFLs one per plant, both plants are in a normal Miracle Grow potting mix and are watered with filtered water with Miracle Grow plant food in the mixture. Mixed ½ teaspoon per 1 gallon of water. I usually water them every 2 days depending on how dry the soil is and use about 250-300ml of water per plant. My light cycle right now is 16 on 8 off.

Ive recently noticed that the stronger plants leaves are slightly curled and some of the top leaves have some very light yellow splotches. The other plant (picture included) is to tall for its age or so Ive read and was thinking of just killing it and focusing on the other.

Basically I am asking for some advice. Should I kill the tall plant and focus on the other? Is the other plant getting to much light? To much water or not enough water? and should I just regular filtered water?

Ive read so many different things it’s difficult to make an accurate judgment. So I seek the advice of others experiences and wisdom. If any other information would be useful that I did not mention please let me know.

The lights look a little far away, and no, you dont have too much light. If anything they need more.

How often are you giving them nutes?

I wouldnt kill it, just leave it be, grab another 2 cfls and a fan on them

Thanks for the reply. I will def get more lights on the plants and I know I should totally have a fan in there. As far as nutes none at all. Im not sure what would be best suited and honestly have been extremely confused over the whole thing after reading a handful of posts. But if you had any recommendations or even some posts that you could refer to me to that might help me better understand that process it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

sounds like to much nute that miracle grow is strong shit also you cant get rid of the excess with that soil

Miracle grow has nutes in it, especially the miracle grow food.

Nutes arent needed til about 30-45 days old

Alright well I'm gonna hold of on the water with the Miracle Grow plant mix and go back to just using regular filtered water seeing as there are nutes already in the soil. I'll still add the fan and the extra lights and see how things work out. Appreciate all the feedback.

Ok so heres an update... I added 2 more lights and put in a fan as well the pictures show the new setup. I had a question about the fan. 1 - Should the fan be on when the lights are off or should they go off together. 2 - Also in the second picture u can see where the fan is. Do you think thats an alright spot or should i have the fan pointed directly on the plants. Basically when i close my closest door i was thinking at the angle its pointing it should bounce off the surrounding surfaces hopefully circulating the air. Let me know what ya think and Thanks again.

Good start, the fan in my grow room 5X5, only runs with the lites on. Its a 6" fan and I point it directly at my plants. It helps young plants build strong stems and mold from attacking your buds. Also a must if temps get a little high during lite cycles. LOL on ur project.

if you soak those plants in those pots, you shouldn't have to water for atleast 4 days. not kidding. u don't want to water to much with pre-nuted soils. big mistake that i learned the hard way.look s good though.. good luck

yeah, move the fan directly on them, they need the wind, but tnot too close. Just a slight breeze on them. I keep the fan on even witht he lights off, but only needed when light is on.
Glad you got the other two lights, I have the exact same thing, the clamps lol they work pretty well

If you can get a wooden box of some sort, about two feet high, foot and a half wide you can make a nice set up for cheap.

This cost me $25 for the 8 lights, $15 for the bulb adapters, $4 spray paint, and about $20 on extention cords and a surge protecter.

Well its been awhile since my last visit here. I used most of the advice given couldn't haven been more pleased. As the plants grew i was unable to tend to the light to set them up for maximum effectiveness. Just recently I overhauled the entire setup and tried to clean it up as well as make it more effective as I notice the plants began to grow in odd shapes and more so on other sides. Heres some pics and not all the bulbs were in when i took the pictures. Let me know what everyone thinks feedback is appreciated.

your plants look relatively healthy . nice job. although, i think you'd be happier and would see better results in the end if you had more light though. aka hps.

Well my experiment has finally come to end. I am pleased with my results and can't wait to try again and improve from my mistakes. Thanks to all those that gave feedback and advice.
