I've heard so much crap talked about miracle grow but its just because they get the timed released stuff and then try to fert on top of it...:cuss:

try to go get a ph test kit or some pool strips. since you're in soil your gonna want a ph in the mid to high 6s for the best results.

always put a drainage hole in your containers and If I were you I would only water when the leaves start to droop. Overwatering can cause a mess of other problems man.

good luck man! happy growing

Heres some advice from someone who uses tap water.

1. Use gallon jugs and fill them with water.
2. Leave the caps off for 2-3 days.
3. Cap them until you're ready to use them
4. Adjust the pH level of your water to hit between 5.5-6.5 for best results.
5. for soil i like to use the general hydroponics pH balance kit, it comes with a test vial, pH up and pH down and a pH test liquid with a color coded guide to balance pH. it's very useful for beginners.
6. Buy a humidity monitor to monitor the temps / humidity of the air , for best results temps need to be 75 degrees Fahrenheit when the lights are on / sun is out. and 65 degrees during dark time. 50 - 60% humidity seems to work pretty great. top the plant when its about 15-20 days old (Use the FIM method as it is easy for beginners) and experiment with Low Stress Training and Lollypopping as it gives great results.

7. Keep us posted, i hope this info helps.

I used drops for awhile and got to what I thought was around 6 ph and it turned out to be like 6.5 when I used my meter.

I would recommend the 8 dollar better off of eBay over the 15 dollar GH pt kit

(even though it comes with ph up and down which are totally necessary)

No problem man just do yourself a favor and learn as much as you can about it. Ive only done a handful of grows but each one has been different from the last in like every possible way. Learn the basics, and then advanced techniques. Topping might be something you wanna do to this plant.

Instead of topping ur plant think about tying stems down and the side buds will push out giving u good canopy control and more yield. Tying is easy. FIM is not so easy imo.
topping can be confusing for ur first grow. Tying can be undone if u make a mistake.
good luck.

Fimming really isn't difficult at all. it is the method i use. i highly recommend it for beginners. It helped me understand alot about growing i've only used trimming methods for 3 grows and in that time i've learned way more than i did by just letting my plants grow.

Here is a pretty awesome diagram that teaches you literally everything you need to know about Fimming and Topping.
