New Kitchen faucet install. Any plumbers out there?

Ok so my buddy came over and installed a new kitchen faucet and he seemed like he knew what he was doing bc he has done it a bunch of times as he does bathroom work. My question is the faucet seems very snug to the sink, but he never caulked it and never put this clear piece in and I'm not sure if this clear plastic piece is a gasket or was just for shipping purposes. ... Like I'm seeing its a gasket now, is it that important?

He really should have installed that gasket, among other things it separates the two potentially different metal types, helps prevent staining/electrolysis, and keeps water from running under the fixture into whatever is underneath. That said, it’s not the end of the world that it’s not there, but if you see any staining/changes in the metal where the fixture and sink touch, then I’d put it in.

Thanks, do you do plumbing? Yeah the fucking thing came with no instructions and it looked like a shipping component... I having come back to do it. I don't want future problems

Put it on with front facing front! I'm not a plumber, but my son's a steamfitter (a high pressure plumber), and I've helped him put in a lot of sinks and I've done at leaast a dozen fixture replacements. Just did one for my mom about a month ago. I'm old enough to remember before those plastic gaskets (and rubber) you used plumbers putty, what a PITA!
