new sprouts help are they dead ??

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and on my first grow attemp I've had alot of trouble recently bought 35 seeds from a online bank and only 6 of them have germinated and sprouted sucessfully been a nightmare getting going now the ones that have sprouted 2 days ago some of them are small and are curled up in a ball kind of facing down or to the side instead of facing up trying to open up in to leafs is this normal or is there something wrong ?? Only one of them is facing straight up but won't shed the other half of its shell its solid hope they aren't dead

Give them time. It can take awhile for them to open up and turn green. They're doing something underground now.

What are they planted in? Are those Jiffy pellets?

Starting with 35 plants is mildly ambitious. I would have said 1-2. It takes awhile to work through the learning curve. It's not uncommon for the first grow to be problematic.

I know it's about the money lol yes they are in jiffy pellets in a heated humidity dome with a 300 watt cfl and in the grow room I have 4 600 watt hps lights and out of those 35 seeds only 5 have sprouted the rest are dead or or never got past germination stage I'm praying these new sprouts grow they sprouted a few days ago

Give them time. I just used a Jiffy pellet for the first time and I am not a fan. They seem dense and wet. So, I think you should be careful about overwatering them. It's probably a challenge to keep them damp but not wet (because when they're wet they stay wet for a long time).

Next time, wet your pellets, then remove the guts from the net, mix 30-50% fine (smaller bits, broken crushed, sandy) perlite. Germinate directly in soil. Scoop out a bit of soil and make a germinating "bed" with some of the Jiffy guts. (or, if you must germinate in a temperature controlled area, put the guts in an 8 oz plastic cup, something small like that (with drainage holes at the bottom).

I use Rapid Rooters. They have a more airy (open-cell) texture.

Be patient, give them time. Maybe mist the heads once a day to help the husk come up. I will remove them with a surgical scalple. But, not too soon. The stem has to be fairly strong before risking that. (It should fix itself anyway.).

Good advice mate my house is freezing cold due to insulation so using the heated dome for them I've all ready helped a couple of them shred the shell but a couple of them are fixed on solid can't get them to budge and I only have 20 litre fabric pots for them to go in to lol I was just worrying with the ones that are curled up and pointing down they are all changing in colour to a nice green and yellow but arent straightening out or opening up into leaves yet

The Jiffy-pellet grow I linked to was "curled down" like that. I thought it died. I almost rushed it (fiddle with it, kill it, start a new one). But, it came along.

Sometimes the husk will stick. Sometimes there is a membrane that will hold the cotyledons shut. I will mist it and pull it off. The membrane will slide off when moist. But, *seriously* you don't want to rush into that. The stem will pull away unless it's developed further than it is now. I use a magnifying lens attached to reading glasses, and a couple of pins. I use one pin to leverage against what I'm pushing/pulling on (so it doesn't leverage against the stem). But, that's the last thing you want to do. Give them time. An occasional mist can help them shed the husk and membrane. But, you risk "damping off" doing that. It's a nerve-wracking balance at this time.

I'm getting to old for this lol I have been visiting them several times a day and it is nice and humid in the heat dome but doesn't seed to weaken the shell but I guess when the leaves are ready it will pop lol the colours are changing on it so it's doing something lol they are just slow growers probably

What is the orange stuff on the jiffys? germinating seedlings dont want nutes or hot soils.

Hi mate I haven't added any muted the Orange colour of the jiffy soil is natural I think and I've got them in the heated humidity dome it's not hot in there just warm and I've got my 300 watt cfl light behind the dome I've checked them today and 3 of them are opening up into leaves finally

Next time use some solo cups with holes poked in the bottom. Fill them with some soil. Plant directly to soil. Lose that dome. They need to be moist but not to wet.

Yea it's really cold in my house literally freezing so I could never get them to germ or sprout with out the heat of the dome I've opened the vents on it to let fresh air in now for them ill give them another week and transplant to the bigger containers

I would try to get more air exchange in the dome. Clones like humidity. But, I don't think seedlings do. You run the risk of "damping off." I'm in a dry environment and never use a dome for seedlings.
