New To The Forum And To The World Of Weed

hey all

my name is captain :) i am new to the world of weed but i am a fast learner and i like to think i am pretty smart so i am sure i will catch on quick.

i am looking to grow for personal use but it would be nice if i could grow and cure once or twice a year instead of the 3-4 times a year some growers do.

that being said my ideas for a first grow would be to commandeer about 12 rooted clones from a friend of mine and grow them in soil. from what i have seen that is the preferred medium of beginners. I would like to know what is a really good brand of soil, and why?

600w hps light i believe will cover that many plants appropriately. i have zero experience with growing the sweet leaf so anyone who has grown clones please chime in with a hint or 2 on nutrient brands and watering schedule. i assume the "friend" i would be obtaining these cuttings from might have a few more hints and will know more about the plants based on experience.

hopefully i will have some pics of my growing space build and outfitting. i have read quite a few grow-room build forums and have a fairly good idea of what i want and how to get there.i have a room that is 11x7 but i would only be using about 4x4 of the floor space. what should i do to best prevent disease and pests.

i do need to read more and learn more and see a few more grows to make sure i have a solid idea of what i am doing but i guess my three major questions are:
1. best soil/medium for a beginner.
2. anyone who has grown clones please help with nutrient brands and watering schedule.
3. how to isolate a part of a room for growing.

anyhow thats all for now
tips tricks advice and other helpful tidbits appreciated
