Heh…I just made a 4-bulb fixture with 4 13-watt reptile CFLs ( I was going to put in the 26-watt ones, but they were too long to fit into my 4-bulb fixture/reflector). I guess that means I am adding 52 watts of something that the plant likes.

I have mine on for the entire 12-hour lights-on cycle with my 155-watt Area 51 SGS-160. I mounted the UVB fixture so that it illuminates from the side -near the top of the canopy and it's only 2-3 inches away from the upper colas.

I added that fixture after the plant had been flowering for about 3 weeks. The buds are so covered with trichomes and super-sticky and super stinky…but I don't know whether it's the UVB or not, because this is my first time at growing this strain (TGA Vortex)…but what I can say, for sure, is that it hasn't hurt anything by being on that long! My one plant sure seems to like it, anyway.

My understanding of CFLs in general is that they have to be a close as possible to the plants…so that's the way I placed mine. Even at that, I don't think it comes anywhere near the amount of UVB the plant would be receiving if it was outside in direct sunlight. But, hey, like I say, it hasn't hurt anything. Maybe it's just a waste of electricity and the plant would have grown this sticky, anyway….but, maybe not!
