New to vaporizers. Not clear on if we're doing it right

Upon heavy recommendations from the local dispensary folks, we picked up a digital vaporizer yesterday. No instructions or details in the box, although the guy explained the basic concept.

So we got home and I turned in on to preheat, figuring 380-400 would be about right. Few minutes later put a broken-up nug in it and we passed the whip back and forth. Didn't really seem like we were getting anything. After five minutes of this we gave up. I emptied the whip, and it didn't really look like it had burned up the weed. It was dry and somewhat brown, but still had some green in it...looks like it cold still be smoked.

We got a little buzz, but it was....different and not really that strong. If we had bonged or rolled the amount of weed I put in there, we would have been pretty wasted. So it seems on first try that you get less out of your stash than if you just smoked it the regular way.

So a few questions all run together. What's the optimal temp for these things? How do you know when it's "done"? Can you pass back and forth and keep hitting, or do you need to let it sit for a few minutes between each toke? With no smoke and no indication whether you are just hitting air or getting THC, it's kind of confusing.

Are we doing something wrong, or are vaporizers over-hyped?

hey im also after some info on vapouizers, how do lighter run ones compare to the electronic/battery/gas ones?

obijohn, hmm i would suggest try and find your model on line for instructions, some take up to 5 minutes or so to heat up from reading and some tell you to chop/grind the weed first. mayb wait till its heated up before even adding the weed?

anyway like obijohn after some personal experience with vapourizers as well as compared to the product describtions online.

cheers

Hey obijon!

Whip style (direct draw) vaporizers take a little skill to use because the heating chamber is usually small and inefficient - the heating chamber is where the heating element and glass/steel transfer heat to the air that you will draw through the plant mater.

To get around this >>> breath more slowly. That's it. Take a long slow breath, slowly drawing the heated air through the plant mater. When one breath is breathed in, hold and give the heating chamber time to heat up the air for another pull.

If you pull too quickly you are just drawing warm air through your bud, because the heating chamber hasn't had time to heat the new air being drawn in.

.

These are my Tommy Gun (black disk to right) and Armadillo (ret rectangle) DIY vaporizers. Both will give better hits than any direct draw on the market except the Supreme. Just larger heating chambers, more efficient heat transfer than most vaporizers. The Tommy Gun has a 5' x 5/16" steel heating chamber with 7500 copper BBs for rapid heat transfer. The Armadillo can be made for less than $10, the Tommy Gun for $65.

There's nothing mysterious about vaporizers - draw/push hot air though bud. Page 8 of the thread linked below, if you want to make a vaporizer or go over use please post in that thread so I can keep FAQs together.

Thanks.

Thanks, I'm thinking part of the problem is we just kept hitting on it. I clicked your links and they don't seem to go to anything about vapes. Am I missing it?

let it warm up 20 minutes or so and it helps with the whip on my vap the Arizer Extreme to start out on fan1 unitl i get smoke than turn off the fan and I suck the vapor whenever I want, usually every breath.

A vaporizer can separate the good cannabis from the mexican ditch weed as all flavors and smells come out with a vaporizer its a smootheir and more flavvorful pull.

and the brown stuff thats left voer is called Duff and you can bake with that as the vap has burned everything but the CBN.

Is that why the buzz doesn't seem very strong? I can feel it some in my head but not at all in my body

We have an Extreme Q. Vaping is nothing like smoking. The Q warms up quickly so my wife sets it for 210*F for five minutes with the herb in the bowl. Then she turns it down to 190* and we do balloons more than whip. Definitely long slow hits. A vape can make you cough. If you do... you will feel it.

Grind your bud down as much as possible for the vape. Keep the ABV (Already Been Vaped) and smoke that or use it for edibles.

I sure wish I had read this before throwing away half a jar of ABV (I call it "crumbs"). I got my vape free when I bought a fourth for $60 at the grand opening of a new dispensary. DANG!! My cousin kept asking if there was anything that we could do with the crumbs and everyone got on her for fiending. [Pause as I go and get my water pipe ready....].

This is so cool, it feels like smoking the same weed twice though I'm going to cook with it rather than smoke it. The reason I got the vape in the first place was to reduce as much tar in the smoke as possible so I will just use the "crumbs" to make oatmeal cookies.

Wow, thanks!

I recently purchased this iolite and at first was quite disappointed. After reading reviews on this and attempting various times I learned that I wait about 3 min after heating it up and then another minute or two after I have put the chamber on. It doesnt get me crazy ripped like smoking, but I feel that this high takes away my pain more than smoking did (though I have gotten pretty messed up with a full chamber packed in). I am a patient but I also do MMA and work out quite a bit, and it feels like my lungs are cleaner lately and more forgiving. Also like others say it can be used in public, not immature like but just chilling, and no one seems to really care.
