Newbie help please with low rider!

Hi,

I am going to be using a 400 watt hps light from the go, it is for 6 low rider plants. When seeding and early veg stage, how close should I have the hps light?

i would start with the light about 1ft away from the top of the plants until they get used to the heat. a good test is to put your hand right above the plants and if you feel alot of heat on your hand, the light is too close.

Im using a 400W for my current - and first ever - grow. They've been under it from day 2. Ive not got it air cooled or anything like that and can get it to within about 16 inches and still keep the temps in the 70's.
