Newbie needs opinions. Nute burn??

First of all Im a newbie to plants, period. I have done a large amount of homework on the issue at hand.

I have 12 plants. They are midway thru their 3rd week, indoors, 18/6 flourescent lights(8 4', 6 2'). I used plain old miracle grow soil after starting them in jiffy pots. I havent used ANY nutes so far, but i think the miracle grow has some in it. The end of a couple of leaves on 2 separate plants are burning away, and 1 other one has one leaf with yellowish spots. I have checkd my ph, and it is just a lil high.

Here is my question, am i correct on the nute burn, or could the 6.2 ph cause this. Also none of the other plants show any of these symptons. As far as im concerned i believe they look healthy. And i have 6 plants in one big rubbermaid tote, and other 6 in another. Thats why the singling out of plants has me confused. Please, any help or critizism is appreciated. (just dont hit me too hard) Thanks

miracle grow is the problem....too strong for seedling which dont need added nutes til they are a bit taller.....my guess is you have hot spots just let them grow a while and see how it goes water heavily once or twice a week to dilute the miracle grow maybe that will help....you can always repot in a couple weeks if they arent looking better

what about using organic soil, with a tad of perlite to start the plants off when they're babies?

yeah but more than a tad is better, esp. with seedlings. it's easy to overwater when they're much too small for the pot, as is the case when they're tiny.

MG doesn't cause nute burn in seedlings , I've done over 50 seeds and not 1 has gotten nute burn ahd I've used MG with nutes in it

Diffrent room temps and water PH Level and if your taking water right from the tap that could be causing the problum

Here's an update..

Ok i have figured out what has caused this burn to some of my plants. When first started the seeds they were in jiffy pots, I had to leave for a few days before they broke ground. One of my kids got a mg plant food spike and put pieces of it in every pot. Dammit! well not all are suffering. Out of 13 only like 3 or 4 are showing signs, 1 died. Now they r bigger i have been feeding ones without, phd water with reg mg nutes at 1/4 recommended. And none to plants with visible burning(which has slowed to damn near a halt right now) When those leaves fall off those plants, i plan on feeding them 1/4 nutes also. Hopefully get them all caught up together.

Right now i have a row suffering from not enuff light. I'm waiting for my hps to arrive. should b any day....
Thanks for all you guys info and advice. I have learned so much from the growfaq, and eveyones posts in the last 2 weeks. Thanks

I recommend that you and every one else does not use Jiffy Pots because alot of people have had problums with it , use Jiffy pucks insted:leaf:

I guess they were jify pots, u add water to each little puck style thing then it expands, then u pot ur seed, like i said by the time i got back damage had been done, and i had stretched seedlings(too little light). But i know next time

I belive thoes are 2 diffrent things , jiffy pots are pots made from other stuff and kinda look like a pot , pucks look like a net sack with soil in it

thats the ones i had, with the netting, also i am having problems looking at thread and post, something bout mysql and maxhealth or something, any ideas? gettin to be a pain in the ass.

np ^.^ oh and if the burn is abit bad just cut a bit of the burned part off , I find that if I cut off the old bigger leafs a bit every feeding (every watering with B-1 Thrive) I find that my plants grow more

So should i go ahead and trim back some of the burnt leaves, or just start trimming back the lower fan leaves in general to promote the undergrowth? Do u need some pics?
