**I am not sure if I am on a probationary period as I am not allowed to begin a journal, so I found this section of the site to be the next relative are for my grow room**
Greetings fellow growers! Let me begin by stating that after countless hours of scrolling and searching through an insane amount of forums and guides, I have decided to officially climb aboard the information highway! Having never grown before, I have made somewhat of a bold move and initiated my venture towards a bubblepopnics/scrog system. I have read and re-read the warnings to greenhorns, cautioning not to begin a first grow with a hydrosystem, let alone scroging it as well. I do though have faith that with the right mindset and a willingness that supersedes any amount of fear or doubt, this vision will produce roots that hold my determination firm and through it will bear fruit that go far beyond the physical realm into the incomprehensible-where every day feels like a harvest day. And because I have not experienced a true harvest yet, has given me all the more reason to affirm that both this ambition and child-like enthusiasm and will not go in vain. My hope is that through this journal, we can walk through this process together. I cannot take credit for the progress I have made up to this point as none of this would have been possible without all the information I have pieced together from you patient community members. And please, one last thing: I encourage anyone to share whatever knowledge or opinion they feel may be pertinent to the matter at hand. Lets do this!
I have begun this ongoing process by renovating a crawl space in my in my attic/garage that will eventually act as my home for my soon to be residents. When I began this project 3 weeks ago (during the tail-end of summer) I quickly became skeptical of the location I decided upon when I made my first cut through the garage ceiling drywall and was hit in the face with a wave of sultry stagnant air. So for these past three weeks I have been working in 100°F+ temperatures; attempting to create a balanced environment that my plants could one day thrive in.
After enclosing and painting with a section of the attic I felt adequate for the room I would need, I then began planning for ventilation. I recently began constructing an air-duct intake that was improvised around a pair of studs spaced by about 20. [The plan is to enclose this section of studs with ply wood and on the outside of the garage, cut a hole that will act as the air intake opening leading up to the floor of the room]. There was already an 8x8 roof vent that now hovers in the center of the room [This will later be hooked up with ducting attached to a 6 inch 440 cfm inline fan]. After sealing and calking the entire interior, I then placed a white 5 mm tarp to cover the floor. Because I will be running a hydro system and my buckets have exterior drainage spouts, any mess that may now occur will not cause issues with the wood that lay beneath. Today I cut a hole in the attic wall and inserted an A/C unit in the room.
Finally cold air! I have been running it for the best 1.5 hours and the room specs have gone to from a balmy 97° and 68% humidity to 63° and 42% humidity. Though there are a lot of factors to include the heat from a 1000w HPS light an oscillating fan and a 3w air pump, I feel that once the inline fan is installed I should still be able to maintain a comfortable temp during the daytime phase in the mid-70s. Only time will tell.
12 inches above where the stalk of my plants will begin is a scroging screen I have made out of 2x2 and braided mason line. The line was woven to create a taut screen made up of 2x2squares. I have purchased 2 black five gallon buckets with 6 in. net pots in the top of each lid. Also, as stated above I have hooked each on up with viewing/drainage spouts and have them prepped for the air stones/2-way air pump.
At this point I need to install the inline fan, the lighting and seal in the A/C unit. From there I will start investigating the nutrients I will choose for my plants (possibly FoxFarms Trio with a CalMag sup. I will post pics tomorrow when I have some light and will continue to keep this updated as often as possible. Again if you see anything that sparks an opinion or anything you would like to share, please do so.
