newbie!

hi all just bought lots of boards and a loft ladder, hubby is laying floor as i type! super excited. looked on amazon at the led grow tent kits but there is so much out there any advice welcome. i am going to be growing autos and want to use led lights but i am worried about cold as it is quite cold up in loft especially at the mo
the size of tent will be 150 x 150 x 200, and i was hoping i could grow 4 to 6 plants in this size?

The Mars Hydro tents are one of the most reliable and heavy duty. I have one myself. They sell kits with LED lights, and some kits with everything needed to start growing besides seeds, soil and water.

With LED....you get what you pay for. The upfront cost is the killer part but over time, it'll pay for itself. I would personally stay away from the kits online, just me though. Have you decided on your medium and nutrients yet? Also, LED does give off heat as well so maybe keeping the drivers in the grow area may be helpful.

Also, you should have no problem with fitting 4-6 plants in a 5x5 area.

Mufflers can be added on to extraction fans to dull the noise down, or you can get a powerful fan like an AC infinity T6 or T8 and run it on a low setting. Still pulling lots of air with minimal noise.

I would advise you buy a dehumidifier as this will dehu and provide heat. Or a small greenhouse heater.

In terms of venting you are gonna need to vent out. This can be done in a few ways in a loft...
1 cut a hole in the roof felt and vent through the tiles
2 drill a hole in the chimney... can cause damp issues
3 board up one side of the eaves and vent into that boarded section... can work well.

I vent through the felt.

The challenge with led is you need to maintaining a higher heat... so bear that in mind

That's a high ceiling for a loft, look in the search engine above or on main site there is a forum for grow builds, you are just wetting your feet so I would buy a good soil with everything in it, also remember to buy the strain for the temps, white widow,.northern lights autos meant to be good with cold weather, also search forums for that, I bought soil with all the added ingredient's for my first grow and the plant was wonderful, blackberry gum, buy oil filled radiator and a thermometer plug if needed,I would seriously look at Mars Hydro or HLG, HLG may be dear but the expense is worth it IMO.

Hang anything that makes a noise with bungees. This helps reduce resonance. I have a 150mm fan hanging from the rafters... its also wrapped a billion times in bubble wrap.

First off welcome to Riu and there is a lot of good information on this site and I can say that if you are going with a kit I would go with a person who has grown in one and @HydroKid239 has skills in that area have someone that can help you out as far as picking out a kit as always thank you for your time and the best of luck

You really don't need the carbon filter just yet....but if smell needs to be masked, you eventually will.

Consider cmh lights too... cheaper and maybe better for cold weather.

Forgot to say.... insulated ducting on each end of the fan reduces the noise massively without spending money on a muffler

Just a thought.....you are in a perfect position to start a grow journal here. This will allow others to follow the grow along and help whenever needed. Also allows you to take notes on the grow as well.

I use the straps that come with the tent, and I let it dangle. I think those were for strapping up the carbon filter... Which I have hanging with a rope ratchet. Keeping off those poles is a big help. Never tried bungees. I do however use Bungees to help hold up a little with my air circulating fans.

I would avoid kits like the plague. It's an expensive hobby to get into, so i would recommend taking the time to research each aspect of your grow, starting with lights, and in your case-ventilation and temperature. With a kit you will likely end up with a bunch of stuff you want to upgrade the second your knowledge base increases. Growing in a cold space will be especially hard for a new grower, so set yourself up for success from the beginning and nail down your temperature and humidity-that might mean pulling air in from the main house, venting to the outside, and/or use of heaters/dehumidifiers. Don't skimp on the light though, and consider a cmh/hps simply due to your need for heat. The AC infinity fans are quite good...as for tents, a cheap tent won't influence your grow, but a cheap light will. Always put your money into the items that will help you grow more/better.

In terms of lights... hlg lights can achieve great things... like this.. in the loft...

2 max in full flower....more if smaller pots and proper training.
