Hi there I really need your help so I'll start out with an accurate description of my setup since my camera is broken at the moment. and I probably won't be able to get another one in time:-?

SETUP:
I have 2x
[FONT=arial,sans-serif][SIZE=-1]Envirolite 250w Fluorescent Blue (I know mh is better but can't get them here) over my 12x 6 day old (6 days above ground that is) seedlings. the temp is between 70-80, and moisture 30-50%.. they are in 3inch rockwool cubes, in a grow tent with an outtake in the top and a passive intake at the bottom. I have a small oscilating fan on low. ph between 5.5-6.0.
yeah and I presoaked the cubes in 5.5 ph for 12-16 hours
I just put the light a little over a foot away from the plants, it was around 9-10 inches away

OTHER:
I hand water them with nuteless water, keep the cubes not to heavy and not to dry, I had a pretty bad temp drop and spike from 69-83 for two days, I think thats the only thing that as gone wrong except maybe the ph fluctuation, it's seems to rise really fast if I put an airpump in the water it goes from 5.1 to 6.8 but I only water them with 5.5-6.0

PROBLEM:
the first 4 days they stretched a bit and the still only have the first set of leaves in 6 days! and have stunted growth, the leaves haven't grown much, not at all really in the last 3 days and they haven't strethced either but the problem is the tiny leaves have been turning a little yellow from the middle and working it's way out after the veines. 10-30% of some of the leaves are yellow others have around 10% yellow but rising
I also have younger plants wich are 1 day above ground and 3 days above ground but they havent started to show the yelloing yet and I really want to avoid that..
the plants only have the first couple leaves that come after the round ones, one plant two opposite leaves. and the leaves look ok except for the discoloring or yellowing

MY TAKE:
the only thing I can think that could be causing this is
1. to much light, or the light being to close
2. the temp drop and spike
3. ph imbalance, the ph maybe rising to whatever after I water

I can't figure out what's going on! about a year ago I tried putting some seedlings in rockwool with the same light but in a giant room, completely dry, ph around 8.0 the first week and then from 5.5-6.5 and the grew better than these got around 2 feet tall with really thick stems when I had to "put them to sleep" and I think I created alot better enviroment for them now but still going worse:confused:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! asap if possible..

:peace: out

lets see, i kinda scanned through yer post, but either "nute burn, light burn, to much water, it sounds like your burning them, somehow.

Doesn't seem very likely the light is burning it I use floro's and they sometimes actually touch the plant it has never burned it though.
The Stretching is usually an indication of the light actually being too far away. I'm at a bit of a loss here myself. Pictures might help.

I dont know what I could be burning them with since Im only using water and ph downer.. except maby the lights but like he said there isnt much heat coming from them. but still I moved them away and the temp is good..

so what could it be???? I thought I created a pretty solid enviroment for them but still they look like Im raping them with some sort of evil leaf discoloring dildo.. Ill give anyone who spots this an eternal karma boost!
well worth it no?

Why did you back the lights off from 9-10inches to a foot? If the lights don't get too hot you should get them as close as freaking possible to prevent that stretching.

I don't have any experience with rockwool, so I can't help you there, but in soil you can bury the stretched stem up to the first node for better support. It will turn to a root and be fine. But I don't know because you probably plan on doing hydro.

From your description I think your discoloration is a pH issue. Proper pH allows for adequate nutrient uptake. If it gets too high certain nutrients get locked out and if it gets too low others do. Either way the plant won't be getting everything it needs, and will likely stunt the growth, ESPECIALLY at such a fragile early stage.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck:leaf:

I backed the lights because I could only think of a few things that could be causing this problem.

1. the ph, and nutrient uptake like you said. but thats only possible if the ph is rising in the rockwool after I water because I always check the ph before I water.

2. the temperature spike.

3. and that the lights might somehow be affecting the plants not necessarily because of heat but because it's 500watts a few incues from young plants..

but I'm completely at a loss, and not getting the feedback I expected:cry:
