noob to all this none soil please help

sorry if this sounds dumb but its late and i are tired
But
i was wondering if i could grow in just big rockwool slabs with out getting a self watering system?
like putting them in deep trays and hand watering them?
if so what are the pros and cons of rockwool vs soil for the full growth (veg and flower) how would i feed them

your rockwool needs to drain to get oxygen and not drown .

You could hand dip the rockwool in your nute solution [which must be kept in the dark and aerated] and then set it on a tray under your light. You would have to time this so it got a lil dry then wet over and over. Now even though this is possible its not the brightest idea and it defeats many of the reasons people use hydro.
