Nor-Cal outdoor grow

I started a grow as a joke and it soon became much more serious. I have since become more enthusiastic with it. The single plant i planted sadly came out to be a male.
I live in Northern California and was wondering when the best time to plant my seeds are. also what type of soil and positioning for light. hoping for a few more females!
