Not growing too good. Help!

I got a few plants in 20 gallon plastic buckets. I cut the bottom open so if the roots grew past the pot they would get more root space. I thought the pots were getting too hot hot so I decided to build the sides up with dirt. It seems like my plants arent growing that well. They've been like this for a month, and only grew about 4 inches. Has anyone ever done this? Should I just take the dirt off the sides?

I dont have any pics. Im feeding foxfarm grow big along with the bat guana. The ones I put strait to the ground and in 20g smart pots are all getting bigger. But the ones I put in these buckets arent doing too good. The ones in the buckets are about 2 feet tall while the ones in the ground are 4 feet tall. Same strains.

Without seeing her, it's hard to tell. From what you say, you are doing the same thing for all plants except the ones not doing well are in the pots, so ...

There are problem with containers and I think I know what is going on with yours. If you used the same medium as you did with the ones planted in ground, it is too heavy. Container plants need a much lighter soil or you will deprive the roots of oxygen and stunt growth. It needs to be like 1/3 soil, 1/3 peat and 1/3 perlite. So put them in the ground and do it quickly and they will take off.

After you plant them, water them down good and top off with a little more soil if needed. Don't feed for a few days so they have a chance to recover. They may wilt a little from shock. Make sure they are moist but don't overwater. I like to mist transplants in the early morning &/or late evenings with plain filtered water for a few days. Good luck!
