nutrient question

i am growing for some friends and have been instructed to water fertalized them. their instructions were as follows:
1.dip the 5 gallon bucket into the water resevoir( a trash can full of RO water) and fill it maybe half full but does not really matter.

2. get a cap full of floranova grow and pour it in the bucket. make sure the ppm level in the bucket reads 400 ppm( i am growing new clones)

3.balance the ph to 6.0

these are the instructions i was given by my friend to fertalize the plants. i am confused because the instructions on the back of the bottle say to measure it 1tsp per gallon. but my freind says it does not matter because we are measuring ppm.

can someone please point me in the right direction? thanks so much!

If it's your friend's plants, I would say do as they asked. The instructions on various nute bottles are not always acurate for mj, and as growers we kinda learn to read what our plants want, in spite of directions.

it still confuses me because he says that is does not matter how much water i use to mix the nutrients with. just as long as the water i am mixing it with reads 400 ppm when i add the nutes. anyways ill post some pix of the grow we are doing to get some feedback.

PPM is parts per million. This is a ratio of parts of nutrient per million parts of the total mix. What your friend is telling you is that you have to use a meter so that there are 400 parts of nutes and 999,600 parts of water or 400 parts per million.

read the plant. not the direction. if it's a nice green and all the leaf are matchin color leave it alone keep doing whatever you are doing. until the bottom leaf start to turn yellowish then id pick up on the nitrogen. but keep in mind. yellowish leaf in the bottom is natural. but it's also a sign to give it a small dose increase. while the plant get bigger unless u stun the plant.

i know that ppm is part per million. i was just wondering if it matters how much water i use to mix with it?

After you add the nutrients to the water measure the PPM and if it's too high, just add more water and give a good stir before you measure again. Adding more water will thin it out. It's all a big balancing act.

So to answer your question, no. It does not matter how much water you use. You can have 1 oz of water at 400 PPM as well as 50 gallons at 400 PPM.
