Nutrients??

Hi im going to start my first ever grow
in a couple of days , i got a CFL light 135w 5500k (would that be enough for 1plant in a closet?) got compost for seeds & cuttings , got my plant pot. can some1 explain to me about feeding your plant with water (how much) and how to feed nutrients , isit possible to not feed your vegging plant and feed your plant while in flowering? is Ionic soil bloom any good?
thanks

If your soil has all the nutes she needs and doesn't fry her, then sure. Personally, I like a virtually nute free soil base so I can control it.

For light, you can veg but won't do much for flower. You need 2700k and more light.

if i get a 125w 2700k should i use that and my 5500k or just the 2700k , how much should i water her and when? , compost says includes food for 4-6weeks

More lights, nothing wrong with a mixed spectrum. Really it depends on how big you intend to grow you plant and the size of your closet. As for when to water, I water till I see some water coming out the bottom of the pot - Rule of thumb, stick you finger into the soil, if it sticks to your finger it does not need water.

really going to recommend you do more research before you start growing, if you jump right in without knowing the basics trying to learn as you go your going to run into problems pretty fast
Your plant will need nutes, if your starting in a seedling mix it probably dosent have much nutes in it and you will need to start feeding after 2 or 3 weeks of growth. Nutes needed during veg and flower are different. if that is a true 135 watt cfl it will probably grow one plant but you will need to keep it short so as much of the canopy can be within 3 inches of the bulb, if it is an equivelant 135w bulb then no it wont be enough. Even if it is true wattage its better to use multiple bulbs because cfl have such poor canopy penetration

Listen up these /\ guys above me are telling you like it is... You need more light [as many CFL's that will fit, side, top, all over your grow space, and rotate the plants under a CFL grow...In Bloom, more light or your buds will be 'air buds'... You can give your plants all the best nutes in the world, and they wont help if you are growing in the dark [low light CFL's]... ..........................Good Luck!!!

If you've bought some bagged compost, and it says it contains nutrients for 4 to 6 weeks, then use water only for the first two and a half to three weeks.

Cannabis eats more, than some flowers your mom might grow, or more than the average garden vegetable. Your soil should be moist, but not wet. IME it doesn't hurt to let it dry out a little between waterings, that promotes more root growth. If overwatered, roots don't fully develop, because they only grow as far outwards, and as much volume as necessary to find water & nutrients.

Ionic is a good brand, but kind of pricey IMHO. I like Earth Juice, Age Old, and Blue Mountain Organics (Ebay). BMO has a combo pack that runs about $ 35 shipped, with a root inoculant (beneficial bacteria and fungi) grow fertilizer, foliar, and bloom fertilizer with good numbers for growing cannabis.

Here's a link to an info only site about there stuff, it has a recommended feeding chart also.

There's a guy who used to come on here a lot named Ohsogreen, look for threads he made about growing organically. He actually got me interested in the SPT, and I'm glad I tried it.

Dry ferts like Epsoma brand (Lowes, Home Depot), along with some SPT will get the job done also, and cheaply. Bottled or dry, decent nutes are decent nutes. To me decent means, not made from petroleum, the reason I only mentioned those three brands.

If you're lucky enough to live near any farming communities, the cheapest ferts can be had for free: Rabbit manure, Cow manure, Chicken manure, Horse manure, etc. Just one word of advice, compost all of those before using them, dry as top dressings, or in teas. That way they don't burn your plants.

Quoting that guy " Low, slow and steady feeding works best " I agree

As far as lights go, using both from the start would be best. More light equals more growth, and you need to change out the air in your closet as well, otherwise the lack of CO2 will slow growth to a crawl.

I'd go with the two lights you have, and add a third 2700 K bulb, when I dropped the light schedule down to 12/12. Then you'd have a nice mixed spectrum, but one that was predominantly flowering friendly, promoting. That would also ensure you had enough lumens, so you don't end up with a thin, stretchy plant, with overly airy buds. Good luck, and don't worry, good buds can be grown with CFL's, and good nutrients.
