Obama Asks Congress to Authorize Military Action Against Islamic State

President Obama has sent Congress a draft proposal for a war resolution against Islamic State, asking for "limited" use of American force against the militant group operating in Syria and Iraq for three years.

The resolution argues that Islamic State poses a "grave threat" to the U.S. and its Middle Eastern allies and declares the group a terrorist organization. The resolution also condemns Islamic State for "despicable acts of violence and mass execution."

The war resolution also cites the death of four American citizen, blaming Islamic State for the deaths of James Foley, Steven Sotloff, Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig, and Kayla Mueller while in captivity.



Anyone want to bet it includes "boots on the ground" ??

Does that Nobel Peace Prize come with any conditions??

As much as it sickens me to side with Nobama, if anything this is way late.

Al Queda never had oil money and massive swathes of territory, if your War on Terror had ANY credibility Islamic State would be toast already.

They are a dire threat to the US in that they are the best funded and most organised terrorist organisation the world has ever seen.

If only you's had backed Assad against them initially instead of arming "Syrian rebels" (ie. Islamic State).

Hard to back Assad when Kerry was telling anyone who would listen that we need to take him out of power when all of this was just getting started. Besides, we would make Putin right, can't have that either.

Such a cluster, but at least Al Qaeda is on the run!

We really need some Benny Hill sountracks running while our leadership is talking, it would be much more watchable.

americans are afraid of death, thats why isis is making home movies. once we close our eyes to hollywood and other "feelgood" ideologies and accept the world for what it truly is.

Obama's plan is to lead a rogue squadron of stealth jets and carpet bomb isis to oblivion.. or ya know... send in some drones.

Fear of death, like pain, is a survival mechanism, and not exclusive to any single group of human beings.

Even ISIS.

If the mission really is to defeat IS, we'll have 30-40K boots on the ground by the end of the year (in advisory roles obviously). Just need the poll numbers to climb up a bit for support. A few more speeches should take care of that.

Nonsense. And you are not a tuned in American if you think that. ISIS is not making those movies to horrify us. They are not for us. We are jaded. I have seem so many movie scenes of even women burned alive, guys set on fire, blown to pieces, pieces raining down, everyone laughing. We drink up horror and war as if it was Milkshakes. It doesn't bother us.

Those are recruiting tools for the criminally insane.

When we send troops they will grab some and mutilate them on Youtube, and that could mean WW3. It will be the first time that Press blackout has no meaning. It is the first time in History that the USA cannot censor the battle space. WW3 is what ISIS wants, because the Wasab have come to understand, Technology itself is their enemy. They seek to wipe the modern, and replace with Caliphate. If it is mostly glowing glass, they don't care. It will be a grand lesson for the Children of Islam, in 2050.

It is why we pulled out of Iraq and 'stan, in the first place. You can smash into Mosul, and occupy it. But, you cannot stop those snatch and grab, Apache tactics of burning the enemy alive.
