OC Kush, ScroG, 2 X 125W CFL, Ebb and Flow Cabinet Grow

I was inspired to put this together after reading SunnyJim's Maui Waui CFL Cabinet grow. This is my first grow and it wouldn't look as good as it does if it wasn't for him. The amount of information on his thread made this build very easy and towards the end of the build, when I had questions not in his thread, he was very generous in answering all my newbie questions. I already had the wood lying around from another project and the pump came from an old water-cooled computer I ran back in the day when over-clocking and computer gaming was my hobby. I was really happy to find that, after some holiday promo codes, I was able to purchase my lights for $23 a piece. That moment is when I decided the time is right. I just wanted to share with everyone the enjoyment you can get growing without spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

First the specs of my build. 2 125w CFL's. 6400K for Vegging and 2700K for Flowering.

The grow chamber is 18" square and 48" tall. I was going to leave it just the flat white, but, I ran across a good deal on Orca Film so I decided to try it (If you go with flat white, ask the person in the paint mixing area to add as much Titanium Dioxide as possible. It increases the amount of light reflected). The bottom chamber is 24" wide and 20" tall. The whole thing is on rollers so I can put anywhere in the house and I can move it very easily if the need arises. I have 4 140mm Fans on it. The bottom holds a 3 gallon reservoir for the ebb and flow system. I am using capillary mat covered with expanded clay balls. I will be using the Botanicare KIND system of nutrients for this grow.

The beginning.

Mounted on top of the base and painted flat white.

A good friend of mine gave a clone off of his OC Kush. Another friend offered me a clone off of his White Widow, so that will be my next grow.

I will post pictures on a weekly basis unless there is something you cool cats want to see. This is my first grow and I am really excited. Can't wait till it reaches the screen. I am debating Topping or FIMing my young lady. Comments and suggestions are welcome, just keep it friendly. :cool:

This is weird. I posted all my photos exactly like I did in your thread. When I go to edit them they are showing in the edit screen. I just tried editing and reposting and now it shows, guess I did something wrong the first time around. Will edit and get fixed asap.

Great setup, Jack. You look to be in really good shape for a solid grow.

One suggestion - if it doesn't require too much surgery to your box, I would move your power strip out of the base unit which contains your tank to either the top of your box, or outside it (attached to the back?). Electrics that close to water make me a touch anxious, and it's perhaps prudent to minimize risk.

Thank you, I appreciate it. You do have a good point on the power strip. I wasn't quite finished when I got the clone so I went with the fastest and easiest route. Now that everything is together and working properly I will go back and address a few small issues like that. I planned on it being on the side or top when I built it, that way I would have storage for my nutrients and meters, ect. Thanks again for your suggestions and the knowledge that you have shared with me.

Was your clone taken from a flowering plant? Maybe I'm seeing things, but it looks like a tiny flower on the stem, and another near the top node?

I believe you are right about the flowers. My friend had forgot these were in the room when it went to 12/12. He said he has had this happen before and once it was back under 18/6 it went right back into veg mode. Hopefully he is right. He usually takes clones a few weeks before he switches to 12/12 and based on the size I think that is when these were taken and why they have flowers.

I think the plant went into a little bit of shock with the change of lighting and length of the photo period. I am seeing a small amount of growth in the last 2 days. I am running a very low strength nutrient solution right now. I will be changing it out tomorrow and bumping it up to the normal range and see if we start getting a little more action. The first pic is two days ago, the next two are from today.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions feel free to post. :cool:

I looked up some other grows which started from cloning a flowering plant, and they usually go pretty well.

It seems to take a few weeks before the plant starts actively producing single-blade leaves and fully reverting back to a vegging plant. I'm not sure what the rules are about posting links to grows from other sites, so I'll hold off until a mod (or someone) says it's ok.

Patience is needed for the next few weeks, I think, but I'm hopeful it'll turn out fine for you. I wouldn't give it full-strength nutes yet either - I would stick to a weak solution (no more than half-strength) until your cutting is pushing out new nodes. I'm not sure, but it already looks like the tips of your leaves are showing signs of burn. An increase in nutes might exacerbate that burn.

I was actually a little worried when I didn't see much happening at first so I did mist the plant with water a few times. I did a little research and found out that can cause some problems. I think that might be what caused the yellowing. But I will definitely keep it under a weak solution for a least another week. I appreciate the input.

I thought I would post up some info and some pictures. I have done a bit of research and everybody seems to agree that it takes a few weeks for the plant to go back into the veg mode. If you didn't read the first part of my thread, I got a clone from a friend, he had forgot about the clones when he changed the photo period so they started flowering. I have put them in my cabinet under 18/6, and am running my nutrients at half strength. I moved a bit of my media aside, and am seeing some nice long roots that weren't there a week ago so I think I should start seeing some growth shortly. Here are a few pics.

If it wasn't for the fact that I saw new roots coming out of the coco coir I would be worried, but as my friend said, "Patience, you must have my young padawan."

Well, finally starting to see a tiny bit of growth of the leaves. The roots are doing well, it just takes a while to get out of the flower phase it was in. The guy I got it from said it usually takes about 3 weeks to start vegging. I would definitely not recommend using a clone that is in flower, it has set me back about 3 weeks of electricity and nutrients and my time! Here are some pics of the roots. The first one was the 19th the next one was just 2 days later.

And the top with the first new leaves to start growing.

Do you think the yellowing on the ends of the leaves is from to much nutrients or to little? LMK what you guys think. Back when I have some more growth to show.

You're right, it finally looks like it's reverting back to veg.

Also, I think it's burn rather than deficiency. It looks like scorched tips, so I would empty and refill the tank, but with half the nute dosage you're currently giving it. It should stay on the new dose for at least a week.

Sounds about right, Looks like I have a project in the morning. I have another project I am working on. My buddy loaned me a 150 W HPS, I am going to turn an old cabinet into a grow chamber. I am going DWC on this one in preparation for a full sized grow tent with a 400 W HPS. Time to go big, in comparison to what I have been doing at least.
