Hey guys, i'm a new grower. I'm pulling a stealth operation...i'm on a college campus, only growing two plants for now. I'm looking to keep the smell contained in my room. I have a couple fans which should help. But for now i'm trying to keep it cheap. I'm growing an auto flowering strain should take about 6 weeks. I was thinking about getting Ona Gel. Some people it smells terrible, which I wouldn't want because obviously that would draw suspicion to...and then others say it smells fine. Is there a certain type I should get? Also, how long will it last for should I maybe get an extra one? If anyone has any tips at all to keep the odor contained it'd be great if you could post them. Thanks.

agreed carbon filter is the way to go. Then ONA as your back up.

You could look at air ionisers too.

Its not that ona smells terrible or good its that it smells extremley strong and makes it pretty obvious that your hiding something, like its great for if u just smoked a j and ur parents are stopping by in like 10 minutes but for plants definetly get the carbon filter

I get that. I'm growing in a closet, I was going to put the Ona Gel outside on my desk. Carbon filters are fairly expensive, aren't they?

Carbon filters on their own are reasonably priced. The reason it gets pricey is that you need to duct it away using an inline fan and ducting etc this is where the cost comes into play.

Okay I gotcha. I just thought maybe it'd be a better idea to get that when I grow more seriously. Above someone said the strong smell could draw suspicion. I've seen Ona Gel online that supposedly smells like linen...so that would probably be fine, right? How long would Ona Gel be effective for? Remember I only need to worry for about 6 weeks.

Also, even though it's not a carbon filter, i'm probably going to get an air purifier. It clears the air in the room 5 times an hour. Any thoughts on that?

if its an air ionizer then it will definately help.

But the only true way to help smell is carbon filter.

ONA is ok BUT!!!! it will not cover you completely , like i mentioned above ONA is a backup plan. A friend of mine had small tubs with little amounts of ONA in every room in his house used carbon filters to exhaust and also put ONA BLOCKS in all his duct work and you could still smell his grow!

Jondamon, you can stop saying it. I'll say it : A carbon filter is the only sure fire way to elimate most of your stinkies. Things like Ona and Ozium are best used as supplementary control and not to be taken seriously as your ONE SOURCE of odor control. Using a filter in combination with gels/sprays/incense is the way to go.

Some folks just dont comprehend how much plants can stink in flowering, i even have to change my clothes to go out after being in my flower room because then i stink lol.

You can actually vent a small tent using a couple of higher cfm PC fans (muffin fans) and a cheap home depot carbon filter for about $50. Before everyone says it can't be done, I'm doing it so I know it works.

I use 200mm CoolerMaster Megaflow fans that run at 19 dba, 110cfm each. The carbon filter is one from the DIY section on this site. They are silent for all intents and purposes and I have no odor problems at all.

I do have a jar of ona near my tent, but only for when I'm opening it up. I don't have the jar open all the way, I just punched a few holes in the lid so it has a minimal effect and scent.

Sorry man, I don't have a grasp on it your right. Like I said it's my first time growing. Why I insisted on the Ona Gel is that I know somebody who has grown about 12 plants in his apartment. He also swears on Ona Gel and says it does a decent job of getting rid of that. I'm only growing a couple so he says that it should easily eliminate the smell. These are also relatively small plants...1-2 meters.

I guess though it's the general consensus that it shouldn't be the sole way to control odor, would a small air ionizer in the closet be enough? I don't anything about filters and how I would set up a carbon filter. Mind you, it sounds like it would not be appropriate for my situation because I am growing them in a 2'X3' closest (approximately) and I want to keep it low key. I want the door shut quite a bit of the time and not stuff running out of it.

the trouble is that your room/house/corridors will begin to smell as the odour leaks out of your place as it sounds like you wont be able to cut holes in the ceilings etc to exhaust out of.

i dont know how the plants would react to an ionizer in their with them.

your mate with 12 and only ONA is fooling himself if he thinks its not noticeable around his place.

You could try making your own carbon filter to fit PC fans .

have you thought about air exchange in your grow?

You should look to try and exchange the air in your grow once a minute. Minimum once every 3 mins.

that means removing all the old Co2 depleted air out and replacing it with new Co2 rich air.

I'm not really sure how I would exchange the air. Are you referring to the carbon filter? Or something else? How would I go about making a small pc fan carbon filter? Are the materials hard to find?

Sorry man, know i'm pretty clueless with this, if you could help out that'd be awesome.

FUcking A at these comments... I got 8 plants growing right now and I am now starting to notice a smell and I'm imagining it getting a lot stronger which is how I ended up here googling some mask and shit. I'm growing in my room right next to my moms room and my dads room is right next to that. I have like 8 million clothes.... FML @ my stealth operation

I've heard of vaportek being super good. But I would say to put a fan to blow the air out your window occasionally. I know it's cold where you live so. just maybe every 30min or hour or so just blow some air out the window. and use the ona and incense and stuff like that and I think you'll be pretty good

Can we get more pro comments. I'm on a super budget and need to mask
